2016 Summary of the Year
Hedge philosophy, Yearly Update

In this post I want to bring together some of the themes of the year, and associate key posts with those themes. Together they forms a description of my spiritual year for 2016. THEME 1 – Taliesin: bardic work, light, awen and courage. IMBOLC: Brigid at Derbyshire sites such as Gawton’s Well. I experienced the … Read More “2016 Summary of the Year” »

It’s Samhain, or Halloween and I’m travelling to Valle Crucis Abbey in Llangollen in the heart of the night. The idea is that I will meet with Cailleach and Duignan to take advantage of the thin veil between the Middle Earth and The Underworld. If you need a “catch up” on these two “personalities” then … Read More “The Thin Veil – Samhain 2016” »

Ash and the Lightning Path

Conscious Camp. I’d heard of it from my friends who attend my weekly meditation. They had raved about it all year, and at first I wasn’t interested, but when they enthused about the number of activities and how they fitted completely with my druidic lifestyle, then I succumbed. I went to the Autumn Conscious Camp … Read More “Ash and the Lightning Path” »

Flickering Venus and Forgiveness

Why wouldn’t you want to go out on a wet and windy night to climb up a steep hill in the dark to visit a stone circle on an exposed ridge? Such rhetoric did play momentarily in my mind, but I ignored its facetiousness, and went anyway. The Corvus Correspondence As I arrived at the … Read More “Flickering Venus and Forgiveness” »

Reconfigurations and Repurcussions

It was the first energetic thing that I could bring myself to do after Kal’s death. I knew what needed to be done, but I needed a week away to even begin to get enough space between the event and what I needed to find the strength to do. Energetically, shamanically, we had discussed the concept of clearing death energy many times. This was not the circumstance in which I ever intended to use such practices.

Yet the fact remained. Kal’s energy needed to be released from the spot where he had died. Only I knew that. Only I knew how to do that. Only I cared that it was done. He would only have wanted me to be the one to do it. So I had to stiffen up the sinews and go back there. Back to the slopes of Dinas Bran in Llangollen.

Approach to Dinas Bran

On the way it looked so familiar. I remembered all of our conversation that day – his hopes for the future; his travel plans; how other people seemed not to share our levels of commitment to this kind of spiritual work; our shared admiration for Carlos Castaneda’s accounts; and how I was dressed in white and he was in black. Some things were profound, others insignificant. At the time we may not have known which were which.

A Hard Rain

As I began the climb memories came flooding back as though a sluice gate had been opened. As I walked I re-traced the path as exactly as I could, in a meditative state of mind all the way. I walked past the fateful spot and felt my heart ache. That feeling again. A feeling like someone was gripping my heart in some kind of Dim Mak move from a martial arts film.

I reached the top and the strain on my heart got stronger with each step. I was re-living Kal’s experience, I felt. To the point where I thought I might suffer the same effects! As I reached the top the rain began, and I knew this was the beginning of the cleansing process.

Beltane 2015 – Three Points of Ancestral Connection

Posted on May 20, 2015January 26, 2016 By Chris No Comments on Beltane 2015 – Three Points of Ancestral Connection
Ancestors, Churches and Temples, Saints, Wheel of the Year

This is the last of my Beltane 2015 posts. I had intended it to be the central point of the ripple effect – the smallest circle, the tiniest of posts. In fact, it is longer than I anticipated, only because it is actually the very centre of everything I’ve been working with since 2011. In this respect, it shows how sometimes our work has long cycles until they resolve themselves, but also that the smallest insignificant episode can often result in profound implications for your spiritual path. Let me explain!

The Returning Circle – Vale Crucis Abbey in Llangollen

For me Vale Crucis will always now be a local reflection of a similar Cistercian abbey in the Irish town of Boyle. Boyle, in the Irish county of Roscommon, is the centre of an area in which my ancestors used to roam (and some still do). When I visited the area a few years ago I had an amazing series of encounters culminating in an energetic battle with one particular ancestor who then became one of my spiritual protectors. I earned the right to inherit the family name that day, and all of the accumulated knowledge and wisdom that came with that inheritance.

The leaning tower of Vale Crucis – alright, maybe it was me leaning

So, when I step into Vale Crucis it is like being in Ireland, back in my ancestral homeland, and having access to all that information and support. On this Beltane day, having visited many other sites, this was the southern culmination point. For me, I was just here to connect with my ancestors, as I had before. Yet, something much more profound was about to happen.

The White, The Red and The Rose

Posted on March 13, 2015March 13, 2015 By Chris No Comments on The White, The Red and The Rose
Hedge Druidry

The sky was blue, the sun was out, and the weather was warm. Was it Spring? Well, it was the beginning of March, but you could be mistaken for thinking it was at least a month later in the year. Like fledglings stretching their furry wings we roused ourselves to make for our favourite perch – Dinas Bran. As always Bran delivered.

The evocative ruins lured us upwards until we stopped to consider our rightful path. Dowsing rods came out and rather unexpectedly we were both led by the same energetic path to reach the same entry point – and it was the normal entrance that 80% of tourists to the site must use to go in. For us that was unusual. I think it’s probably the first time we’ve been in that way, and the first time that we’ve both had the same way in on the same day.

Dinas Bran - March 7th 2015 (27)
The path to Castell Dinas Bran

Others had the same draw as us for the hilltop was thronging with people. Children were sword-fighting, and that reminded me of my Sword and Shield motif, which I then promptly forgot again. There was no time for play – this was a great chance to do some work. I dowsed for the ideal location for me to get information that would progress my spiritual path. Those of you who follow regularly will recognise this request. A good starting point for adventure! I was taken away from the hordes, and round the back to a shady area I have been to many times before. Ah, it was like coming home.
