Song of the Plains Wind

I was at Alderley Edge in the Wizard’s Wood. Kal was with me – it had been his idea (I think). The heat of the evening air was regulated by a smooth cooling breeze that was sufficient to lift your hair and cool the brow. The trees were playing a melody of different rustling noises in tempo with the wind’s movement. It was a perfect evening for me to try to discover The Song of the Plains Wind.

This would be the first of my three wind songs that I was being asked to learn. When I looked back through my quests for the year i realised that this has been one of the first instructions I had received this year, but of course, as this was now the height of summer I had forgotten about such distant memories. Yet the advice had returned to me, and I recognised that the air spirit that was my guide this year would be the perfect companion to learn such songs with.

Between Light and Shade

I often sit at the balance point between light and shade, I notice. This has only come to my foregrounded attention in recent weeks, but I noticed it this evening as I was directed to go an sit in one of  the many caves which can be found in this amazing forest. This would be my preparation point – far enough into the cave to be at the point between light and dark. Such is my nature and my predilection. I recognise it and I flow with it.

A cave offering a balance between light and darkness

As my mind settles into a state of balance too, and thoughts flatten and siphon away I feel the movement of the celestial objects around me. The Sun, The Moon and The Earth are all orbiting around my centre. They feel very strong and large. I feel their attraction, the pull of their movement, and yet my centre is sufficiently rooted and centred to be able to hold its integrity. I feel ready for whatever is to come, and so I say my thanks to the spirits of the dark depths of earth, and I take my leave to re-join Kal, who is loitering with a dancing readiness to depart, to be drawn deeper into the woodland along energetic pathways.

An unusual time at the Wizards Wood

An unusual time at the Wizards Wood
Forests and Woods, Visions
Nothing to do
Nothing to do

It was a beautiful evening when Chris and I decided to pay a visit to one of our favourite forests. The wood at Alderley Edge. We arrived there in the early evening and the forest was as welcoming as ever. Stepping into the mystical wood we both drew our rods and began to follow them, and follow them, and follow them.

After several minutes we stopped to take stock, something unusual was happening. After taking us to a place of preparation the rods began to take us to some odd places. A tree here, a bush there, a hillock the other. At each place they demanded that we stop, look around, be patient.

Still wandering
Still wandering

If this had happened a couple of times, we probably would have ignored it but it happened again and again. Occasionally I would attempt to elicit an answer to a question and the rods would refuse. Or rather the forest would refuse. Be patient.

Visions of a magician at the Wizards Wood

The night and early morning had been spent in the land of the mystics. Opening the gates of the heart using Zikr and Sema. The result was a good day of sleep, but this then meant an evening of wakefulness. When I awoke from my slumber around 4 in the afternoon I had a yearning … Read More “Visions of a magician at the Wizards Wood” »

Calming the Golden Dragon

Posted on July 8, 2014July 8, 2014 By Gwas No Comments on Calming the Golden Dragon
Dragons, Hedge Druidry
When the evening is filled with sunshine and warmth then a lowly Hedge Druid has to make full use of it. I left work earlier than usual in order to beat the traffic. Arriving at Alderley Edge I found that there were few others parked up. Today that was a benefit – I wanted a quiet space in the forest to find some answers to questions I had about The Golden Dragon.

No rods tonight – I don’t have them with me. I will have to do all of this work using my senses alone. I switch on my attunement as I pass through one of the entrances to the forest, pausing briefly in order that my aura is noticed by the beings in the forest. It is recognised. We are now familiar cousins. I wander on a wavy path towards a familiar place on a rise – it is the place of cleansing, but it has moved slightly since I was last here. Nonetheless, I absolve myself of worldly energies before setting off again on my wanderings.

As I am about to walk on when a crow squawks loudly above me, landing on a tree next to the one I am beneath. I notice it, and it caws again, it’s beady eye catching mine. I see – tonight you are the messenger, Mr Crow. Then I will follow your direction. The crow lifts up into the air and soon drops onto the top of a nearby tree. I walk towards it, and as I am about to pass a specific pine tree it caws loudly once more. I look up at the crow – this one, I ask? “Caw!”. I thank the crow for his guidance and he lifts himself away into the blue evening sky – his work is done.

The pine tree is dying. As I touch it I can feel its energy sapping away. As I commune with the tree I begin to appreciate what is happening here. Part of the work I did with the Golden Dragon in this very forest a few weeks earlier has hastened the rate at which the dying trees are killing themselves off to make more material and energy available to the living trees. This is part of the process of the living trees strengthening their existing root systems. But what a sad consequence for the weak trees! Suicidal sap! However, when you consider that trees are much more communal and inter-related than humans, then the sacrifice seems more comprehensible somehow. This is an existing cycle of regeneration, but my recent work has added impetus to that process, that’s all.

I decide to move on. The crow has disappeared, but other crows take flight silently as though to indicate my next direction. I begin to head deeper into the forest in search of more inspiration.

Strengthening Tree Roots

Posted on June 23, 2014June 23, 2014 By Gwas 2 Comments on Strengthening Tree Roots
Crystals, Dragons, Healing, Hedge Druidry, Natural Magick
If the title sounds like a practical guide to ecological well-being then it is only partly misleading! This story is a continuation of my tale about recovering a Golden Dragon that I was offered as a gift in Brittany. Now I am in Alderley Edge forest, and having re-acquired the Golden Dragon I am keen to see what we can do when we work together. In this tale I find that we can work some very practical and beneficial natural magick.
Firstly, I need to set some ground rules with the dragon. We agree that
  1. he will disappear when Kal is near so as not to affect him.
  2. he will only be available when my heart is true and the task is worthy
  3. I will call on his services by using a set of crystals which I am currently carrying
The sun emerges from a sullen sky at this moment. A sign that an agreement has been reached and that we are good to go. So I go, packing my things quickly and moving through the forest in search of a place where we can work together. I am using my dowsing rods as guidance, again because I want to retain an awareness of everything as I pass and devote my full energy to that.

The Golden Dragon Crystals

Next I need to know about the dragon crystal set – a set of six crystals that I brought with me “just in case”. I have no idea what they were originally assembled for – I don’t think I ever used them for anything, and yet they were available as a set when I needed them. That need was now. I think it’s worth mentioning that this set of crystals seems to have accumulated by itself over a period of time. I may have had an idea that some crystals were to be used in a kind of chakra set, but found that to be useless. Some crystals then were used elsewhere, and new ones were put in. For what reason I don’t know, but somehow, through some means, I appear to have exactly the right number of crystals and of the right kind. You’ll see how that work in a minute. Just remarking that some “setups” on this spiritual path take a long time to be realised. We should always allow for that, and not try to control or regulate everything. A little bit of chaos and seemingly random input may actually be a necessary part of a long-term magickal process which makes no rational sense until it’s realised.
As revealed in my previous post, tonight I’m following rabbits, like Neo from The Matrix, or Alice in Wonderland. As I move away from the oak tree I stand stock still – there’s a small hare sitting in front of me, watching me, only twenty feet away. It is very young, and I don’t want to scare it so I wait for it to move. It doesn’t. So I send it a thought, and push some energy towards it – “Guide me on my path tonight!“, I say.  It suddenly ‘sees’ me and bolts down the valley’s steep side. I follow the path above to see where it went, but it’s too fast and has disappeared, and so I am left to wind my way down the slope as best I can, in the same general direction.

A young fallen rowan tree needing help
In front of me there is a fallen rowan tree. I feel I ought to give it some healing, and so I stop to do just that, using a combination of my own energy and some white light drawn from any spiritual source which would want to contribute to such an act. I am both channel and worker in that I combine the two sources, investing my own healing energy into a universal healing process, and blending it with an Otherwordly energy source.

Recovering the Golden Dragon

Posted on June 21, 2014June 11, 2014 By Gwas No Comments on Recovering the Golden Dragon
Dragons, Hedge Druidry, Natural Magick

You may remember that I left you on a bit of a cliff-hanger at the finale of our visit to the French forest of Broceliande? I had been given the gift of a Golden Dragon but Kal had been incredibly suspicious of it, and his dowsing reported to him that it could only do harm. Well, at the time I released the dragon in order to save Kal from any harmful effects. In fact, at the time I dowsed for the level of harm it would do Kal and confirmed that actually, it was very harmful to his energy field to have this dragon presence around.

Now I was back in Britain, and curious to know more about this incident, and to see whether the Golden Dragon could be recalled to service. Was there a way of getting it back, and how could I protect Kal from its influence, if I could get it back?

For some reason I think of Alderley Edge. It seems to have the right environment for dragon work – a mix of good energies and different types of spaces – caves, trees, cliffs, streams, and even a fake stone circle. I arrive and have to make a decision – to dowse or not to dowse? I decide to let the dowsing rods guide me until I am cleansed, protected and in tune with the vibration of the forest this evening. I’m just being lazy, but dowsing is like a “fallback” position now and reliable as hell.

The rods lead me to a familiar place at the brow of a small hill. Yes, this is a cleansing place, so I stand in the rays of the evening sun and I let the normal world slough off me like a snake sheds its skin. It feels good to open up energetically, yet this is also a vulnerable moment, and so I put up some protection immediately, as though, having gotten ‘naked’ I should cover myself in energy in order to present myself to whatever I may meet. Even The Otherworld has its etiquette.

As I think about where to go next a hare breaks cover and scoots down the hill towards a quarried part of the forest. Then, lead on! The hare is clearly my guide for the evening. I walk down following the hare’s trail. By now it has vanished, of course, but its direction was clear enough. I follow the path into the quarry and realise I am where Kal found a cave once. Now it is very much on our “map” of the forest.

Golden Dragon - Alderley Edge - May 2014 (1) (Large)

In cave I settle into the vibe of the space and feel my aura compressing to match the shape of the rock around it. I am also aware of the being at the end of the cave, but on this occasion I merely acknowledge its presence and choose not to converse. I have work to do for myself. Soon the cave’s natural earth energies allow me a deep root connection with Brittany again. Whilst at Barnenez tomb complex I had created a strong earth link, and here I was experiencing the same form of connection – a really strong two-way link between my root chakra and the ground itself. Almost like my “tail” was stuck on the rock, and I was shackled by it, yet fed by it at the same time. An umbilical cord into Mother Earth.

I got a set of crystals ready for use, but now is not the time to use them. I feel that will come soon enough, and I pack them away again. Go with your instincts on things like this. I am sure now that I have been grounded and cleansed. My spirit guide prompts me that the next stage is to find a Faery Grove in order to connect with the Golden Dragon. I thank him for his intervention, and excitement builds as I consider the possibility, then look around considering which direction to go. A hare bolts from the nearest bush, streaking off out of the quarry and heading deeper into the forest. Then, my little fleet-footed guide – let’s go meet a dragon!

Welcome back to Albion. We had arrived back from our Brittany and Beltane pilgrimage late on Saturday afternoon. I was pooped! A long hot shower and off to bed was my own recommended therapy. And as prescribed that is what I did. Dreams however had other ideas. The main theme seemed to be interlocking and … Read More “Magician who Creates Worlds Beltane 2014 19” »
