In the second part of my Anglesey Megalithic Tour story we are heading out along the northern coast of the island in search of more wonderful sites. We’re now back on the agenda, and so the next destination is the Soar Stone.

We chased the edges of the deep rain clouds which had been flirting with us all day long. For some reason we were being spared the rain that everyone else on the mainland was getting. The sun travelled with us.

The Soar Stone – Standing stone – Llanfaethlu, LL65 4NL

We parked at the recently renovated Black Lion Inn just outside of the village on the A5025. I have to say – they’ve done a fantastic job with the place! It looked modern, yet inviting. I think it may well be the stopping point for future tours of the island. Now, I don’t just take people to places I like. The Soar Stone and I are quite incompatible, yet it was on the agenda due to its huge subtle energy power. I might not like it, but I respected it!

I invited everyone to use the technique for approaching this site as they would with any other – feel for the boundary; find an entry point; wait and ask for permission; enter and do what feels natural. Some of the girls couldn’t resist jumping into the field and touching the stone. They were feeling the immense male energy line that passes through the stone along its flat edges.

By now the group were starting to ask questions like, “Where would the line go to?” and “Why would the stone be positioned here?”. All good questions, and I invited them to try to discover their own answers by meditating with the stone. That, and some serious map reading, might reveal the answers they were wanting!

As I have found with other male-line standing stones the energy is being directed towards a place of military significance. If the line is traced on a map the energy is being pointed to a fort on the west coast at Porth Trefadog and extending through a tumulus and an old church ending close to the mouth of the River Gogh on the east side of the island near Dulas.

This is a post related to the quest “Become The Giant” that I was given at Spring Equinox.

As the weather was fantastic for April, and Kal was eager to go out, I was easily persuaded to venture forth into Wales. Having no destination I suggested Gop Hill. Within half an hour (through heavy commuter traffic) we were zooming down the A55 towards the special hill.

Then, out of the blue, I thought we’d gone past the junction. We’d been chatting and it suddenly occurred to me that I had already gone wrong. Kal suggested a new destination: what about Bryn Celli Ddu on Anglesey? We had time, petrol and inclination. Let’s go!

As we approached the Jubilee Bridge over the Menai Straits I got a different feeling – I should visit Lligwy Chamber – the one part of the “Follow The Bear” (a Great Bear Landscape Zodiac quest) that I hadn’t managed to visit this year. Now was the time, I felt. And for some reason, I knew that the two quests would come together in that location – one to be fulfilled, the other to be expanded.

Feeling The Movement of the Universe

I was shown a cleansing place – one of the lumps of stone outside of the iron-clad fencing around the huge cap-stoned chamber itself. I used the dowsing rods to find the correct alignment for myself – which direction to face whilst cleansing. The detritus of the modern world sloughed off me like a snake’s skin shedding.

Next I was shown to stand on another of the lumpy stones. This time I felt inclined to discover the whereabouts of the Great Bear constellation (Ursa Major). It was directly above me! Perfect, I felt. I closed my eyes and felt something that I have never felt before. I felt that inside my head was a three-dimensional representation of the panorama of stars and galaxies. I could see and feel the gently rotation of the Earth in relation to the backdrop of other energy sources – the stars, moons, planets, asteroids – the whole constellational tapestry, sliding… shifting… swirling.

I nearly fell off the stone several times! With my eyes open the movement became the usual imperceptible shift, but once my eyes closed while standing on this stone then I felt the Universe’s subtle movement in three glorious dimensions.

As a form of postscript to the Lunasa day that we spent on Anglesey we had moved further around the island from where I had met with Gywn Ap Nudd. Now we were on the eastern side of the island near to the town of Moelfre. In a way I had achieved everything that I had set out to do this day, but Anglesey is constantly surprising. One new surprise was in store, and a reminder of the power of sound was to follow.

These Island’s Traditions

We had been to the area around Lligwy before. Lligwy Chamber was our intended destination, but for some reason we had ended up coming at the site from the opposite direction than usual. Call it luck, or some other coincidence. I pulled over into the parking area designated for the Din Lligwy ancient village. I had seen the signs many times but for some reason it had never felt like somewhere I should visit. Today was totally different. The steering wheel practically pulled itself to steer me into a parking spot. OK – clearly I was intended to be here today! But why?

The information sign revealed little about the structures to come. Following the rare signposts across several fields we eventually located the settlement through a process of following grass trails and a mild amount of dowsing. Other visitors were not as fortunate and were traipsing back and forth trying to find the hidden village. Once you locate the iron gate on the corner of the wood at the edge of one field you will then be led up to the ancient village above.

So, how “ancient” is ancient? The Wikipedia entry for Din Lligwy dates the archeological finds to the 3rd or 4th Centuries, but the presumption is that it was in occupation much before that. A “small farming community” in the Iron Age is the supposition, then a smelting workshop during Roman times. I think it had a particular inhabitant who went on to have an impact in this area, and now I’ll tell you the story of why I think that.
