Anglesey, Wales – August 25th, 2008
This is the second part of the three-part story of a visit to Anglesey by Kal and I in late August 2008. In this post I will recount the tale of several sites that we looked at in the northern part of Anglesey, but before I get to those, I need to tell you about the impressive and curious stones called The Bryn Gwyn stones. THE BRYN GWYN STONES
Not far past Brynsiencyn village, on a bend in the road, there’s a spot to park that will take at least one car. That’s the easy bit. Thankfully, the ever-useful ‘ShropshireTraveller‘ on the Megalithic Portal site had mentioned that the stones formed a boundary between two cultivated fields, so when we hopped over a stile into a field by the side of the road I knew we were looking for something in the hedges and trees that went between the two main fields ahead. We spotted them half way down the hedge and tramped towards them. If we hadn’t had that vital intelligence report we’d never have spotted them, though.
As we approached we had that Phoenix Nights moment: you know the one, where Max and Paddy are on the nightclub doors when a coach load of midgets pulls up and start walking towards them. Max turns to Paddy as the midgets approach and says, “How far away are they?” That was how we felt as we approached the two stones – they couldn’t be THAT big, could they? Yes, they were indeed monstrously huge! Fifteen feet high I guessed. We felt dwarfed! Like midgets. 😉
Something struck us both as we neared the stones – they were emitting a strong energy. Neither of us had unpacked our rods at this stage – we had just “bumped into” the field around the stones and both stopped and looked at each other at the same moment – these were strong! Both the stones had that effect. About ten feet from them you felt a push in your gut like someone had bounced a ball against your stomach!
I got my L-rods out and started to look for energy lines. The lines surrounded the stones, and they were very strong, pulling the rods easily. The lines came out of the stones and went back in again at holes, gaps or edges, and they tested as male energies (for me, anyway!). Neutral lines linked the stones to each other.
We wondered, if they were part of a circle at one time, whether we could still detect the places where other stones may have been. We followed the neutral lines in a circle – one stone each. Kal went off into the other field, and I headed off into the one we arrived in. We reconvened puzzled. We had each dowsed in an elongated half-circle, then both stopped when we realised our lines would never connect to each other! Did the stones mark the remainder of TWO circles – strangely shaped circles at that – more elipses? We never did work out more than that on this visit. Something was calling us on to the next sites – probably the idea of finding somewhere to have lunch!
THE LLANFECHELL STONES
Near the village of Llanfechell are three standing stones, tall pillars in a small circle, that intrigued me. That was our next stop. Parked at the edge of the village, at the top of a hill, we headed down the side of a house on a public footpath with the stones in view all the way. Down the hill, then up the other side, and we were there. No direction-finding devices required!
While I dowsed for energy lines around the stones, Kal tested the stones themselves for energy. He found that only one of the stones had a ‘vibe’, whilst the other two were not registering anything. In the picture above it’s the bent stone on the left that had a ‘pulse’! Although we didn’t discuss what we were dowsing for at the time, this turned out to correlate directly with my findings. I found that energy came out of the live stone, circled around the other two stones, then re-entered the live bent stone.
As was becoming a custom, I had picked up a stone as we had approached the site. Again, it was one of those unnaturally clean stones that just lay on my path as I approached. Hand-sized as usual too. I dowsed the innards of the circle to see whether there were any lines I hadn’t dowsed yet. Nope. While Kal meditated and admired the view from the hilltop I put some energy into the small stone and placed it at the energy crossing point in the centre of the pillars. Then I dowsed the area again. A petal-shaped mandala pattern had emerged. Kal noticed my exclamations and began to dowse it with me. As we dowsed it increased in size from a central flower outwards to encompass each of the stones! We laughed to each other as we waltzed around the stones following the manifestation. When we met rod to rod we roared with laughter. It’s done it again! Another patterned manifestation, but this time a growing one. Now, what can we do with this knowledge?
FOLLOW A TRUE PATH
With that thought in our heads we continued towards something marked unclearly on the maps we had as ‘burial chamber’. Let’s see! Well, we never did find that burial chamber. Instead we found a stone not marked on the OS map. We had walked down the hill from the Llanfechell stones. I had taken an obvious path alongside the hedge, whilst Kal was walking on some lush grass that seemed oddly flattened as though by its own weight. Even though I was going downhill, in the mid afternoon heat I was struggling. Kal, on the other hand, was flowing easily across the lush grass! I stopped him and pointed this out. “Well,” he stated without a hint of irony, “that’s because I’m following an energy path, and you’re not.” I moved across to the lush grass. How..? But..? It was much easier to walk. No doubt. Clear path – difficult. Deep grass – easy. Eh??? Today was turning out to be quite a revelation. I would try this concept out again when I revisited Lud’s Church, and…well, try it yourself if you want to. It really does work! Following the energy paths makes your travel easier across difficult terrain. And you don’t tire as easily. Was this a long-lost knowledge we were tapping into? I have heard of Pilgrim Paths stretching across the south of England from the east to Glastonbury and beyond. Did they walk along the energetic routes revitalising themselves at sacred sites along the way? Would have made the journey easier!
THE UNCHARTED STONE of LLANFECHELL
We pushed through a loosely-tied gate to join some heifers in a rocky field within which this new stone held pride of place next to a pile of cow manure and rutted, hardened mud. As we walked towards the stone the cows crowded closer and closer to us. We started to feel a little hemmed in, so every now and then I waved my staff at them and they halted, until we turned away then they started again. Well, cows need to play too!
We dowsed around, stumbling over hoof-marked holes and through slimy patches of liquid cow crap. You know, it’s at times like this you wonder what the hell you’re doing! This stone had energies, most definitely, but we weren’t hanging around to find out how far they extended. He ‘hoofed it’ out of there, back into the field we had come in from. As we climbed the hill Kal again started to streak ahead. “Am I that unfit?” I wondered, labouring up the only slightly gradated slope. “Get into the energy line!” Kal advised me. I did, and behold, all that “weight” I had felt I was carrying disappeared, and I strode to the top. “I can’t tell you how hard that was!” I breathed heavily to Kal. “I should have found the energy path like you did again.” I had felt as though I had lead legs, or had ankle weights on, or something. Kal, in complete contrast, wasn’t breathing at all. Wasn’t I the one who went running and exercised? Too weird. There’s something in that energy line business.
Last on our agenda was a site that looked really intriguing. From the photos I had seen it looked like a big slab of rock propped up by smaller stones around the base. It was somewhere on the eastern side, about half and hour from where we were. We packed away our kit and drove off towards Lligwy chamber.
