Emergency bulletin : selling our forests

Modern Druidry

I don’t usually get involved in campaigns. It seems to me like people are all too quick to jump on a bandwagon exclaiming their outrage and this and that topic “of the moment” and then salve their conscience that they have done “their bit” by clicking a few links. However, I have been SO outraged by a current government proposal that I can’t help but ask everyone who reads this blog to help contribute to the sense of outrage so that it becomes a national uprising. I am hereby actively promoting action of any form to stop this government’s proposal to sell off 748,000 hectares of woodland to commercial enterprises in order to meet their budget requirements.

Here’s the story reported in The Telegraph:

Outrageous money-grabbing cull

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/countryside/8082756/Ministers-plan-huge-sell-off-of-Britains-forests.html

If you feel as I do that this is not likely to improve the amount nor the availability of the woodland available to you then please begin to spread the word, have discussions about it, send letters to your MPs, shout in the streets, do whatever you feel is right to begin to reverse this incredibly short-sighted and scurrilous proposal. I, for one, will be standing inside my local woodland preventing machinery from accessing it if I get one whiff of a sale.

Here are some sites promoting action too. The Woodland Trust is running a campaign currently, and petitions for that end on the 30th October, so only a few days to register your views. The write the e-mail for you so you only have to edit and send it from their site.

I’m going to be fuming about this for weeks, I can feel it. Don’t let this happen to your local woodland or everyone in the country will live to regret this crazy proposal.

Gwas.

What madness is this! Our forests are our roots and connection to nature!

We can only weep at the prospect and arm ourselves with thorn and lightning. I begin to know how the druids of Anglesey felt when they heard the Romans were coming – a last battle to save what is precious.
