This post is from memory, since the events it describes occured April 2010. At that time I was in the midst of writing my book Active Enlightenment (plug intended).
I was probably about two-thirds done and had come to what is called, in the trade…writers block. I had tried all sorts to get myself moving, with no results.
Zip, Nada, Zero!
Then it occurred to me as to whether I could call the Muse. I don’t really believe there is a entity called the Muse, however I do and did believe there was a vibrational harmony that one could be in and thus when one is in this harmony they are in the presence of the Muse.
As Gwas says, whether entity, deity or psychological construct, if it works, then it works, right? So I dowsed as to whether I could call the Muse? The answer was a surprising Yes. So I began to ask what was needed.
I thought that since my library was where I did my writing that would be the place where I would want the Muse to be focused, if that makes sense. So with that intent in mind I began to collect the tools needed for the job. Here they are:
- 12 Crystals (I guess if you have lots of them, you can get to use them? I selected them by putting them out in small piles and dowsing each pile, a favoured method of Gwas’s I might add.)
- Intention and Visualisation (the easy bit).
- Two plants (I found this out because the rods took me to a plant in my neighbours garden).
I just want to mention that to select the two plants I went to a local Home-Base (DIY store) and whilst no one (but the camera now I think about it) was looking I dowsed to see which plants would like to help in this ceremony.
As per usual I dowsed to find the position to place all these items and was ready to do a visualisation. Which, if I recall turned out to be quite difficult, after all, what does the Muse look like? I made a best guess stab at a bright multi-hued light that shifted colours and form. Don’t ask, it’s in my head.
So there I was, at the appointed place, calling this mystical being to come help me with the writing of my book. In my minds eye the light came and settled in my study some feet away from where I sit at the computer. Time to test it, So I dowsed of course…
Is there a Muse here (of course its “a” Muse, there must be more than one, right?) The answer was Yes, Excellent. Where is it? I was expecting to be taken to the study, but instead the rods twirled and took me down the stairs and into my living room and right underneath the spot where I work in the study.
Weird!
I confirmed it a couple of times to ensure this was indeed where the Muse energy was, Yep! So I asked whether I could still “access” it from upstairs? No. O dear! Could I move it? No, or rather yes, but it would be way less effective.
Apparently the energies of my home were such that the best suited place was there in my living room. So it was that the remainder of my book was written on my laptop in the living room, rather than in my study.
I think that is pretty much accurate telling of how it was. And yes it worked really well, if I do say so myself.
Kal Malik – Author

Great story Kal! I’ve had a very similar problem today.
For a couple of days I’d been struggling to write something for my website. I’ve had ideas and I felt like I really need to (you know that feeling? when a certain part of you around your solar plexus just keeps telling you to move and create?) but each time I would sit down to write… void. As if all those great ideas, those subjects to cover were irrelevant.
So today, after five attempts or so, I just sat down in the living room wondering, if there is a need to call for external help – to call for Awen, or should I just rest. I guess the Great Inspiration heard me call her name, cause almost immediately, as my mind wandered off to some unknown land, I wrote down a poem.
The scary part is that I wasn’t really thinking about what I was writing. It was as if the Goddess, the Force, or whatever suitable name one would find, was guiding my fingers as they were typing words.
My conclusion is that I really wanted to write, I just ‘thought’ too much about it. I pressured myself over the subject, instead of just allowing the light of inspiration to flow through me.
Valuable lesson for me, but now that I’ve read your post I think, that maybe my inspiration was in the living room instead of the places where I’d tried to write?
