Grounding a disturbed energy

I was visiting my erstwhile home town last weekend and decided to pay a visit to my dear mum’s grave. In honesty I go there to reflect on memories of the times we had and it is a beautiful site looking across the Cheshire country and hence great for meditations.

Fox Covert

I got there around 5 in the afternoon and the sun was reflective of the summer season. From the various experiences (described herein) I am always conscious of any energetic shades that might be about when in graveyards. But as I walked through the well groomed site, I found the place peaceful. In traditional culture there is the belief that “spirits abroad” is more of a nightly experience than a fully lit daytime. I wonder if the sun light (or daytime) has a grounding effect on shades, reminiscent of the old classical Vampire movies. Perhaps there is some foundation in this tradition? As an after thought I wonder if it is the other way round, i.e. that we are more sensitive in the night time hours? (See Gwas’s notes on energy, time and the pineal gland)

I digress… I was sat by my mums grave when my attention was caught by a grave some ways a way. I don’t know why it caught my attention, it didn’t have anything more ostentatious than any of the other graves and yet it kept pulling me towards it.

After some 30/40 minutes of this I finally gave in to the urge and wandered over to the ‘calling’ grave. It was an ‘ordinary’ grave. The headstone had a banner draped over it which had been blown askew by the wind and so hid the name. I stood by the grave trying to get a feel of what/why it had called me.

Mere moments later I felt the enticing tug of energy and knew that a shade was abroad. A quick reminding note here, my faith is that there is a distinction between energy shades and spirits. So we are not talking about a spirit here (as far as my understanding goes).

Of course, what else would be abroad in a graveyard? There was a different feel from this shade than others that I have encountered. Whereas most shades draw you close so as to feed of your energy. This one was almost asking to be grounded, a peculiar sensation to be sure. Still having some experience of this work I was happy to oblige.

Again from reading this blog, you will know that Yew trees are excellent for grounding shades and I felt that I needed the help of one in this instance. Alas such a foresight had been lost in the architecture of this otherwise gorgeous site. Having said that, along one of the edges (edges?) of the site there were around 30 young Yew trees spaced out at a distance of 15 or so feet.

I wandered along these trees, feeling for a sign, or sensation. Almost immediately I felt that the trees were too far to help me. Their energy did not have enough effect at the distance I was looking for. I persevered however, feeling that something ‘useful’ was going to crop up.

Ladybird

As I meandered through the Yews I felt the need for a sign, (I didn’t have any rods with me I might add. Shock!) as I requested this sign, a crow (my totem) flew to a Yew tree some five away from me and cawed. What a sign! I hurried over and stood by the most dilapidated Yew of them all. I looked at the crow (which had hopped away a bit) in askance? Seriously?

Sometimes a sign isn’t a sign I thought and began to look to the remaining trees. As I stepped away a ladybird took flight and hovered in front of me, then turned and landed on the very same Yew. I stared at this second omen in an almost trance. (I was doing some research on Ladybird Totems and came up with this rather nice link.)

Sometimes you do have to tell me twice! Who am I to judge by appearances? If this Yew was ‘the one’ so be it. I thanked the beetle and the crow and walked up to the Yew.

Yew trees and I are on an excellent standing (see most of this blog) and thus it took mere moments to get a connection with this ‘young’ specimen. As I leaned against it I pondered what I might need. All I had with me was incense sticks and I immediately got a feeling that those and more would be needed. My inclination was drawn to use a crystal to somehow ‘carry’ the Yews influence to where the shade was. But I had no crystals with me. On intuition I looked around the Yew tree for something that would be suitable and right behind it I saw a smooth palm sized oval stone. “Perfect” was the word that sprang to mind.

I picked up the stone and with incense lit and intention set I placed the stone in a crook of the tree and waited an unspecified amount of time.

I pondered the likelihood of finding a suitable stone and as an exercise I traversed the whole chain of Yew trees looking in and around them for an equivocal stone. I only found one other ‘suitable’ candidate and that was the poor cousin of the one I used. Fantastic!

By this time the incense I was holding had nearly burned out and I felt the need (understanding) that I had to get the stone to the shade before the incense had finished. I set off at a fast walk which turned into a sprint and managed to get the stone, thank the Yew and get to the shade with only a few seconds to spare.

I got to the grave out of breath and stuck the incense sticks into the ground by the side and just as they burned out I spotted a nice little depression, just the size of the stone, in front of the head stone. I gently placed the stone there and took a deep breath. It was some good work, I could feel it.

From my vantage point of kneeling before the grave I could glimpse the name on the stone. The shock rocked me back on to my seat and I sat staring dumbfounded at the headstone.

I had recognised the name. It was a person who had had a very terrible death. Police investigation wasn’t clear at to how the person had died, whether suicide or murder. What was certain that their last days on earth had not been pleasant. I don’t want to say any more. But if a person’s energy (not soul!) was to be un-restful then this is a person who I would place near the front of the queue.

I sat for some time, pondering this new knowledge in terms of the work that I had done. Sometimes on this path you feel like you have done some truly remarkable work, but the understanding of how great it is is lost to some extent by the magnitude that one can’t perceive fully, only feel the edges of. This was one of those moments.

It renews one’s sense of meaning in life.
