Thornborough Henge has been on our radar for a couple of years now. It being out in the middle of nowhere we had been averse to making the long journey to it. This year however we had put in our calendar very early on in the year and so here we were driving up and down narrow country lanes in search of it. At one point we passed a church dedicated to St Michael at the same time that Chris was telling me about his Michael adventures. A coincidence we said as we drove by.
About 10 minutes later we took a turn and found ourselves back at the same church. Obviously not a coincidence and we marked it down in our book as a place to visit after the Henge. Finally, we found the famed henge and made our way to it. As has happened on many occasions before, we have driven through downpours only to arrive at a place to find the clouds clear up. Again a coincidence.
I would say that the pictured do no justice, but to be honest, it was a huge henge, what kind of pictures are you after? I asked whether there was anything I could do for the site and the answer was No. What about learning something here? Yes. Excellent! So off I wandered to find a place to prepare and align my energies to the energies of this place. Finding the usual innocuous place I did just that.
After which the rods took me widdershins around the henge for some time before they spiralled me in towards but not quite the centre. A few minutes later Chris was also a few feet away from me. I felt that the Genius Loci was also where I was stood and this was confirmed by the rods. The cloud cover was complete and no sun was visible and yet I felt the need for it. So I created a Sun energy ball (from the Summer Solstice energy, remember?) and let it rise into the sky. The spirit of place then transformed it into a kind of smoke and let it drift into the ground.
What could I learn here was the question on my mind and Genius Loci let some knowledge be revealed to me. The offering that you have to make is the Dress you bought. It has to be made before you can collect the Air element in Florence. The tale-end of this commune was that I could not learn more about this until I found the person to whom the Dress would be offered.
And with that, impressive though the henge was, I was done. A bit of a journey to learn that don’t you think?
Kal.
