Muse of Taliesin 3 – In The Bosom of Ceridwen

In the third (final?) part of the Muse of Taliesin quest stories, Kal and I found ourselves taking the difficult path up the hillside towards Deganwy Castle. high above the mouth of the River Conwy. As usual we were making it hard work, or rather let me say that all of the work in this particular quest was characterised by having to really work to find and arrive at the correct location. Perhaps that was a part of the work?

No matter how much effort was involved in getting there, at the top Kal and I split into our respective places – him staying at the old outer fortifications, and me heading to the very centre of the old castle grounds. We seemed to be arriving at exactly the right time. I’ll explain that in a moment when you see the celestial objects some together in a perfect synchrony.

Sunset over the River Conwy from Deganwy Castle

As I walked into the barely-lit dark cauldron of the castle I was faced with the two silhouetted breasts of Ceridwen. These were two hills which a well-known feature of the castle’s upper formation – like the Paps of Anu in Kerry, Ireland. To me they were symbols of the Mother Goddess. My thoughts moved back to Taliesin whose mother was Ceridwen – the crone goddess associated with inspiration. Surely, I thought, I was now in the bosom of the goddess at this site associated with her son? For Kal, he has experience of the crone goddess in the form of Cailleach. For me, currently, it is Ceridwen. She is the owner of The Cauldron of Poetic Inspiration (awen).

Muse of Taliesin 2 – Inspiration Re-Kindled

Posted on May 3, 2014April 17, 2014 By Gwas 1 Comment on Muse of Taliesin 2 – Inspiration Re-Kindled

In Michael Dames‘ book “Taliesin’s Travels” the famous bard moves from the dolmen of Maen-Y-Bardd to Llyn Geirionydd (“Lake Language”). Completely unbeknownst to me, I followed in exactly the same path! I had used the book merely as a quick reference to discover some of the sites, and they had been lucked out at random. Then I had used the dowsing rods to determine which sites I should visit, and in which order. Behold, the order mimicked the text when I went back to read the text properly. Quite a surprise, and another beautiful coincidence.

On the way up through the forest from Llanrwst to the lake we missed a very small turn off to the right and continued up the hill. The road became more of a single-lane rally track through Gwydyr Forest, and I rather enjoyed putting my car through its paces. Kal probably wished the car had an on-board bucket, or at least ‘bucket’ seating! After a few miles of fun/terror we arrived at a small car park at the end of Llyn Geirionydd – the supposed birthplace of the legendary bard Taliesin. We would take the ‘proper’ road back down later.

I quickly realised that the monument that was my intended destination was on the other side of the lake, so Kal dutifully opened the gates along the road – out, open, in, out, open, in again – until we were able to park at the far end in a lay-by at the bottom of a pine-laden hill. The monument was a minute’s walk along the edge of the lake to the small mound upon which it stood. Now the fun could begin.

Calming The Storm

I had become quite discontented and disturbed at the misery of the folks who had been inundated by sea and rain water in the beloved country of Cornwall. One lady in particular made me simultaneously laugh and cry when she said:

“I’m packing up what’s left of my stuff, and now I’m having to move out….It’s not my fault!”

That really made me think. “It’s not my fault”…It was a strange thing to say, but quite reflective of a “blame culture” which is infecting these islands. Yet, I understood what she meant at heart – why was this terrible tragedy happening to such an extent, to nice people, and to a lovely county? It was the British sense of “fairness” coming into play. It was all so unfair. I was prodded into action.

I had been to Cornwall recently – just before the storms started. Many of the places mentioned as being devastated were places that I had been to or through. Having had experience of weather control as a druid skill I wondered whether it would be right for me to try to intervene. Only the dowsing rods could answer this for me, in conjunction with my spirit guide Ash.

2014 – South-Western counties take a battering

Having recently changed my study room I no longer knew where my power centre was. Turns out it has moved from one side to the very centre of the room, which makes it easier to work now. I stood in the power centre and dowsed some questions about the storms:-

  1. Were the storms necessary to re-balance the climate in these lands? NO.
  2. Was an imbalance of water being created by the storms? YES.
  3. Was it appropriate for my to call for a cessation to the storms? YES.
  4. Did I have enough personal power? YES.
  5. Was it the right time of the full moon cycle to do this work? YES, it is First Quarter – the beginning of the power cycle.
  6. Would there be any negative impact on the land or its inhabitants if I called a halt to the storms? NO.
  7. Could I do this work even though I had released my elemental associates? YES – their powers are now a part of you.

I felt that with this series of questions I had the green light to at least give it a go! I asked how ling it would take to take effect if I did the work – the answer was three days. Today was Thursday 6th February. The storms would cease by Sunday 9th. That was my hope, my belief, my faith. With that news, that feeling, I knew I had to try something.

A touch of sacred I am staying at a friend’s home in California, just a few miles away from San Francisco Bay. My friend, Tam is off traveling with her partner so I had the whole place to myself. Wonderful, right? So, it was 8am in the morning and I got up and switched on … Read More “A Touch of Sacred” »

Medicine Wheel and Loyalty

This is definitely going to be one of many. However I would like to share my first encounter with the medicine wheel. If one goes up the slope of a certain ranch just on the outskirts of San Francisco you can find a gateway into the old world. This morning I was led along the path by … Read More “Medicine Wheel and Loyalty” »

To Catch A Falling Leaf

Hedge Druidry, Natural Magick, Quickie

The small leaf incident at Beeston Castle This happened one autumn day walking down from Beeston Castle in Cheshire. We had had a lovely walk, and M had been trying to find the right time to quiz me about my new-found interest in all things druid. I was trying to find a way of explaining to her why … Read More “To Catch A Falling Leaf” »

Dowsing How To Call Lightning

Dowsing, Natural Magick, Quests, Ritual, Theory

Sometimes when you are given q uest it’s tricky to work out the parameters of the work. It’s possible to rely on intuitive guidance, yet that demands an astonishing level of trust in one’s own abilities. Not having that level of trust yet, I often defer to divination methods, and I have found that dowsing … Read More “Dowsing How To Call Lightning” »
