Ash in the Woods

Posted on March 21, 2014March 18, 2014 By Gwas No Comments on Ash in the Woods
Angels, Hedge Druidry, Spirit Guides

In the third and final part of my jaunt to Alderley Edge I will talk about my experiences with my Spirit Guide, Ash. We’re still getting to know each other, it feels, yet one thing I do know about his reason for working with me is that he wants to know more about the say that subtle energy forces form, move and change in relation to this planet. No problem! So do I!

Before I came to the woods I felt like I might be asking him about the way ahead for this year – what we could be doing together to make progress for both of us. Kal and I were half way down the cliff face of The Edge by this time. Where would I need to go in order to meditate effectively with my spirit guide, I asked the dowsing rods? They swung to point me further down the hill, then along a very muddy path towards the Alderley town side of the woods. I was on my own this time – Kal had been diverted off in a different direction. This work was mine alone.

Alderley Edge - March 2014 (5)

Soon I was climbing upwards, away from the muddy path, and up the steep Edge sides towards a peak lit by the last rays of sunlight streaming through the tall bare beech branches. Almost like a beacon I was heading for the still-lit summit, a knoll where I knew what awaited me. Years of wandering through the woods meant that I knew most of the main features in any season’s garb. There was a small cave on top.

Rowan trees and subtle energies

Posted on March 19, 2014March 16, 2014 By Gwas No Comments on Rowan trees and subtle energies
Telluric, Theory, Trees

Whilst working at Alderley Edge just before Spring Equinox 2014 I was taken to the location of a Rowan tree. I meditated at the base of the tree and felt a connection to the tree itself, and so I asked for permission to dowse about the nature of Rowan trees generally, in respect of their … Read More “Rowan trees and subtle energies” »

Alderley and the Elemental Cleansing

Posted on March 17, 2014March 14, 2014 By Gwas No Comments on Alderley and the Elemental Cleansing
Elemental, Energy cleansing, Energy work, Hedge Druidry

With the Spring Equinox looming Kal and I were chomping at the bit to get out and do some work. Spring had already seemed to have sprung, and we were like two young rabbits eager to play in the springtime sunshine.

I had recently been asking my dowsing rods about which activities I could get up to before the Equinox, and the answers I got back were that I could interact with my Spirit Guide. That was incentive enough. When Kal suggested an outing at Alderley Edge it was time to get to work this year. As I happened, there are three parts to this story, and my work with my guide is the last of them. The next post describes some information about Rowan trees, and this post concentrates on a “bonus” bit of energy work which we never expected, but which we were delighted to learn was the same for both of us. I’m calling it “Elemental Cleansing“.

Alderley Edge in early Spring after a stormy Winter. The trees are still denuded, but it was a nice sunny atmosphere in the forest. Sadly, there was also lots of evidence of damaged trees from the winter storms. Such a shame, but a natural part of the winter regeneration process, yet to see such an extent to the damage was quite shocking.

Kal and I asked the same question which was to be shown a place at which we could work. Kal’s agenda was that he wanted to ask some questions about his Energy Double. My intention was to have a meditation with my spirit guide. Yet we both got taken on the same path through the forest, often following exactly the same energy trail down the exact amplitude of the wave. Once in a while Kal would disappear to be taken around a tree. That was quite amusing, as every now and again I’d hear him say “Here I go again!” as he wandered out, round and back to join with my path again.

Soon we arrived at a familiar location – one of the many quarried pits in the forest. It was a deep ravine and we were taken along its edge (literally the very edge) until a suitable path was found and we were taken to our first location.

Imbolc 2014 part 5 of 5 Betrayal!

Wizards Wood I awoke at 2am the morning after our Imbolc visit. I had had a dream about betrayal! Of course I had to check out whether the dream had any baring. So I spent a couple of hours writing up the tales of Imbolc and then slept way into Sunday. Waking up with a … Read More “Imbolc 2014 part 5 of 5 Betrayal!” »

Caileach at the Wizards wood

Ghosts and shades, Spirit Guides

Gwas was restless for an outing and since we are both situated not far from Alderley Edge and the Wizards wood, that was the place on the cards. The Autumn nights had closed in so it was past sunset when we arrived at the eaves of the forest. The night air was cool and fresh as … Read More “Caileach at the Wizards wood” »

Blaise, Castle Mortal and Mortality

Posted on November 24, 2013December 2, 2013 By Gwas No Comments on Blaise, Castle Mortal and Mortality
Arthurian, Hedge Druidry, Quests, Tarot, Wheel of the Year

This is possibly the most exciting, scary and powerful magickal experience I have ever had. It was the culmination of a whole year’s work, but it was also an opportunity that I thought I had missed. How wrong I was. I was about to be tested like never before, but the rewards would be all the more fulfilling. If you read no other post on this blog, read this one.

Alderley Edge is a fun place to spend a night when the moon is beginning to come into its powers. Kal and I ventured out to this magickal forest one evening as the moon was waxing to its fullest, but had not yet reached that point. Once inside the forest I dowsed that it was at nearly 10% of its full potential. The following evening it would be at 55%, and then it would rise to 100% in the middle of Sunday. The three days of the Full Moon – The Hunter’s Moon – would be useful for we Seekers.

For me, personally, I have been working towards Samhain all year, preparing for a predicted challenge. I did a tarot reading at the start of the year which indicated that there would be some point of recapitulation during which the opportunity would be afforded for me to raise my abilities and make some real profound progress on my spiritual path. Tonight was the night to meet this challenge!

This is how I read the Camelot Oracle cards at the start of the year:-

CARDS: Blaise in Castle Mortal at Samhain

CHALLENGE. Whatever you are waiting for, is delay the result of reservation or suspicion?

Arthur’s Stone in Herefordshire was the site I had in mind to begin the process of visiting Castle Mortal and meeting with the energy entity which I could identify as Blaise – Merlin’s teacher and master. Although this was an Arthur-related site, I felt it had a strong affinity with Merlin too. However, my visit to Arthur’s Stone had not yielded any information about the tarot challenge. This had bothered me. Had I missed the opportunity? The dowsing rods indicated otherwise when asked. My dowsing showed me that actually I had needed the Merlin interaction, and that there was still a chance for me to find out about my Blaise/Castle Mortal challenge. Alderley Edge was a suitable location, said the rods. Then I would take the chance.

Who is Blaise?

That turns out to be a more difficult question than it first appears. On the face of it you would think that there ought to be a considerable amount of information about a figure related to such a person as Merlin. Actually, there are only a few vague sentences.

“Robert de Boron lays great emphasis on Merlin’s power to shapeshift, on his joking personality, and on his connection to the Holy Grail. This text introduces Merlin’s master Blaise, who is pictured as writing down Merlin’s deeds, explaining how they came to be known and preserved.” (source: Wikipedia)

Adam Ardrey (web site) in his book “Finding Merlin” reckons he knows who the man might be:

“I have argued in Finding Merlin that the real ‘Merlin’ was a specific late 6th c. British man of central Scotland; a man who worked with Arthur, Arthur Mac Aedan, against the Angles; a man I now call Merlin-Lailoken.

In Finding Merlin I also identified Merlin-Lailoken’s teacher as a man his friends called Cathen the Druid.

It was this Cathen who came to be called Blaise” (source: Finding Merlin)

Cathen, the author goes on to describe, is a nickname for a fighter – a druid in active physical rebellion. A worthy adversary, and a glorious archetype for me at this point in the year.

Where is Castle Mortal?

If you thought the last question was difficult, this one is even more challenging. There is no information about this place outside of the book which accompanies the Camelot Oracle.

“The castle is sometimes known as the Dangerous Castle, and is often said to harbour temptations of some kind. Only those who accept their spiritual selves, who are humble enough to allow spiritual protection into their lives, and who know that the secret of the Grail is service to others can leave unscathed.”

I asked if I could try to complete my quest to find Blaise, and fulfil the tarot reading that I had done at the start of the year – to meet Blaise at Samhain at Castle Mortal where he would pose the ultimate question – was I committed or not to this path of druidry?

I let one dowsing rod describe a path to the place where we could meet. The meeting point turned out to be a tree just off one of the main paths close to the cliffs which gave Alderley Edge its name. The tree was a tall mature pine – the only one if its kind within visible range – and it was bathed in a powerful moonlight which threw pale shadows around as it lit the black and white scene.

After grounding, centring, connecting and asking the permission of the pine tree to work within its aura space I began to call upon Blaise to make himself known to me. As my head cleared out of the day’s junk so a presence made itself known, like an extra shadow slipping in behind a tree. I asked my first question:

“Where is Castle Mortal?”

The answer came back directly and succinctly:

“It is a place where you are in mortal peril.”

Somewhere in Alderley Edge? Well, interesting correlation because the Camelot Oracle defines Castle Mortal as being “Northwest following the Turning Path“. An apt description of where I was right this moment.

It didn’t take a genius to begin to piece together an Infernal Triangle of “mortal”, “edge” and “peril”. There was a hefty and audible gulp taken as I came back to normal consciousness and headed over to the nearby tree where Kal was standing. He had done his work, but I didn’t want to say anything about mine next, except to ask him a question – would he hold on to my car keys and phone. He might need them… if….

The sentence remained incomplete. But he knew something was afoot.

The Sword of Llyn Tegid

Posted on April 16, 2013April 16, 2013 By Gwas No Comments on The Sword of Llyn Tegid
Ancient Sites, Dowsing, Glyphs and Wards, Hedge Druidry, Other Entities, Quests, Spirits, Trees, Visions

We have been having a run of dry but cold weather. It almost felt like Spring was close at hand, and besides we couldn’t contain ourselves any longer. Some of us have already got quests to do, you know? I was on my quest to discover the Sword and Shield. At the Spring Equinox I had found The Shield. I created/discovered it at Valle Crucis Abbey in Llangollen. In combination with the four other sites I visited that day it was formed in my mind, and its purpose became clear – to assist the healing of energetically-damaged sacred sites.

Now I was on the hunt for The Sword part of that pairing. To that end I had received a vision in Alderley Edge that indicated this sword could be found at a sacred lake. The sacred lake in question was undoubtedly the same lake where there is a mythological association with The Lady of the Lake and the giving of a magical sword – that lake was Llyn Tegid, or Bala Lake. At first I thought it might be Llyn Brenig, but dowsing revealed a better ‘fit’. I didn’t yet know what the purpose of obtaining this energetic sword might be, but that could be determined afterwards. The focus was now on getting it.

To that end I had identified a useful starting point via the aid of map dowsing. Llanycil church next to Bala lake was an ancient sacred place, since converted or at least marked with a church. Llanycil Church is no longer in functioning use. It would appear that, for at least the second time in this place’s history, the religious order has been overshadowed. One may say that the wheel has turned back on itself in some ways, at least that was how we felt as we pulled up in front of it in the handy lay-by opposite on the Bala Lake main road.

As so often seems to happen on my outings around Wales I found that a place that I visited was dedicated to St.Beuno. This character seems to crop up at so many of the places that were once pagan sacred sites. I tell you – that man got about a bit considering there were no cars or good roads in his time! Somewhat amusingly, his name could be translated into English as “Bono“. Interesting parallel here – it is said of Beuno that:

“”on the seventh day of Easter he had a wondrous vision” (source: Wikipedia)

A calculation using this year’s Easter date would be around 6th April This visit was a couple of days after that. Close…..close enough to be interesting.
