Good day,
Due to lack of many field notes and failing memories as well as the amount that both Gwas and I cover in one day – we often find slight discrepancies between our recollection of things – in the main though this can often be put down to our attention to differing detail.
With that in mind I decided to write my own version of events at Dyserth castle just to see how close our perceptions were – remember this is not to call into question either of our accounts – but is rather to celebrate the different perspectives we have.
You, the reader benefit most of all as you get multiple views of the same experience – Fantastic!
I had no idea what to expect when we parked up at the edge of a field. Dyserth Castle proclaimed a sign which after so much wanderings around the welsh landscape could mean anything from a pile of old overgrown rocks to a fully fledged castle, moat and all!
So, with open mind I ran on ahead to scout the route as Gwas followed behind, trusty staff in hand. We walked past a set of about 8 rocks close together and I was strangely attracted to the space. As Gwas approached I had taken out my phone to take a snap and queried Gwas, “Dyserth Castle?” I hope not, he responded and we walked on, or again Gwas did, I as you must be aware by now have gained some more youthful vigour and generally scamper up and down the hills! {Gwas: Good point – in my account I had put our visits to the ring cairn the other way around}
Thus it was that as I scouted around a corner of the cliff edge I came across a vast open space. I was totally blown away and stood there nodding my head for a moment – “Definitely Dyserth castle!” – I did a quick double take and ran back up the path “Tally Ho” I shouted and gave Gwas a sweeping gesture to follow up.
We both wandered around the open space and as I did I kind of got the feeling that we were going to find some interesting stuff here. I ended up at the far side of the clearing on the approach leading up to the darkened overhang that Gwas mentions.
I examined the route upwards (well it wasn’t really a route) and quickly ascertained that it was not for me. Gwas came up a few moments later and after an attempted ascent regretfully agreed with my assessment. We ain’t going up there matey!
It was dowsing rods at ten paces after that and we began to move around the clearing finding energy paths here and there. Gwas found one leading into/out of a rock about two foot in diameter.
As he walked away from it following an energy path I called him back and speculated, “What would happen if we moved the rock?” I invite the reader to check this blog thoroughly because up to now we have never considered moving stones – feeling that neither were we capable or knowledgeable enough to do so. I didn’t know what answer I was expecting from Gwas, but on impulse (intuition?) I (with some effort) rolled the rock some few feet away and then stood back to let Gwas do his dowsing.
The energy line had shifted to the new place where the stone was, “Interesting!” I thought, and was still musing over what this might mean when Gwas rod in hand pointed to a spot some ten feet away – “This is where it should be.” Between the two of us we managed to drag the stone to its new place and now the energies seemed to sparkle off it and for some unaccountable reason it seemed like the right place for it.
It was at this point that, as one, Gwas and I decided to build a stone circle. I wanted to use the currently positioned stone as a base but Gwas felt that it was an outlier stone and hence decided to build one starting further away from it. I really felt that there was something in that stone and so I went with my instinct and decided to continue with building the circle from its perspective. Using the rods to identify a place for a stone and then a stone to place I eventually had a circle made of 6 stones. At its completion I dowsed to see if it had a power center and – wow – it did.
The power center was (as we have often found) just of center and I piled up some short stones to mark its position. As I finished I looked across at Gwas’s efforts and found him coming towards me.
A moment later he exclaimed that my power center had formed a stone in his circle. I looked on in surprise as he finished his larger circle which intersected mine and formed a sort of – like Gwas describes it – Venn diagram type symbol. Interestingly the power centre of his circle was marked by a stone in my circle.
It has to be seriously remarked that when we initially entered the clearing the weather was overcast and the wind a biting cold. As we progressed with the work the weather improved and improved until when we both stood back and marvelled at the circles we had produced – the day could not have been distinguished from a warm summers day! {Gwas: I remember us remarking that we must be doing something right! We alwasy seem to get favourable signs from Nature when we’re on the right track with our investigations.}
So it was that on completion – rather from formality that anything else, I asked two questions – to which I should have got a trickster response but I didn’t. The universe is nice sometimes!
1 – was our task here to build these stone circles? YES
2 – is our task now done? YES
Ok, as the shepherd said to the actress – lets get the flock out of here! Upon leaving we stopped by the afore (see top) mentioned rocks. This time I just had to stop and see what the energy was about!
Both Gwas and I dowsed the rocks and concluded strong male energy good for me to stand in – so I did – and boy what a feeling that was – “it was like a river of energy flowing up my spine and into my crown – it then flowed out in front of me into an ever-growing pool”
Gwas for some reason, perhaps his link to female energies, was unable to stand in my power and had to hot foot it some twenty foot away before he was comfortable. From that vantage he checked my nemeton, which extended to that distance and then he followed its rim and found that it was right up close to me at the back and very large in front.
Which from my energy law I knew to be right – the area to my back was a lot closer though than I would have suspected.
I remained within this energy battery for a good few minutes until I felt fully refreshed and totally energised and then I leapt off and was bounding around like a new born.
As we returned to the car, me scampering hither and thither I mentioned to Gwas that although I was feeling filled with energy it wasn’t a totally physical energy. I explained by saying that I felt I could run a marathon but in doing so would injure myself – it was as if the energy gave you the belief and will power to do anything but then you had to take into account your physical state….interesting…
Ok, the energies, spirals and growth over one day’s passage can be seen in Gwas’s excellent posts. This one I hope lends another perspective to this particular event at Dyserth Castle.

Thanks for the extra info, Kal. I had been trying to compress the account a little, but you are right to stretch that particular element of the day out a little as it was definitely the most productive part. I knew you’d be able to add the extras for me! Cheers.
