What is the fifth task?

Posted on September 16, 2010October 2, 2026 By kal No Comments on What is the fifth task?
Edge Wizardry

A while ago I was told that I was on a quest, or would experience five tasks. That to fulfill a four year spiral I needed to go through these, otherwise I would have to travel the same spiral again.

To walk the same spiral again is so against what I am that I just had to go forward with the tasks.

  • The first of these tasks was to spend the night out in the forest of Alderley Edge. That tale is told in a night in the forest.
  • The second task was to be silent for one week. This was a very difficult task to achieve however I had to use a subterfuge to make it work. In essence I practiced, what Castaneda called “Controlled Folly” and pretended that my voice had gone.
  • The third task was to fast for one week, technically a fast from food was ordered, water was ok. This again was a very difficult task, one of the hardest parts was to stop drinking coffee. Again subterfuge of wanting to give up caffeine was used rather than explaining the long story of these tasks.
  • The fourth task was to come to the conclusion that I have to let go of my family and let them live there lives as they will. This was another hard task to do, but oddly, as I had decided to let them go, they let me go too. So that worked out equivocally.

The fifth task remains unresolved for the moment, however there is plenty of time to complete it and go forth on the next spiral.
