I have been researching the origins of the traditional Dunce’s Cap – that conical piece of headwear so often seen reflected in pictures of old school days. The hat is also commonly associated with a Witch, being the tall black hat that everyone recognises.
However, in my research I have come to discover that the ‘D’ that is marked on the so-called Dunce’s Cap does not stand for “Dunce”, meaning a dunderhead or stupid fellow. Instead the ‘D’ once stood for Druid, with the conical hat being formerly associated with a tool to enhance and amplify the received vibrations and emanations of energy from stars, sun and moon.
Etymologically, the ‘D’ letter is found as the beginning character of the word for druid in many cultures that had druids as their shamanic figures, such as the Welsh word “Dryw“.
None other than the highly-respected socio-archaeological research institute “Adademie Societé d’Inigene Francaise (ASIF)” have also published similar information recently backing up this claim. Read their recent report here.
So, there you go. Just when you thought you knew something – it gets turned on its head. Literally! 😉

Hi Gwas – thanks for your feedback there – some really interesting thoughts 🙂 As far as ‘spirit rescue’ goes, I’m sure we (as in my friend and I) came to similar conclusions, but more because we were worried about sending energy off somewhere it shouldn’t be. From the little I know from my own strange experiences, I’ve been shown that the actual soul of something or more specifically someone, exists very separately from the part of it that is ‘living’. Its not a soul that gets trapped, its a part of the outer personality spirit that gets stuck. It’s the part of us that is reunited with the central self and integrated at death, the experiences of that life are then absorbed before we take another carefully chosen incarnation. That probably sounds a bit complicated, but in essence it means that maybe there are cases where a ‘ghost’ has been stuck in a place so long, its no good to the soul of the person it belongs to, its a bit like losing a toy when you were little and then being given it again as an adult, its not much good to you then! I think in some cases it may be crucial to try and reunite these missing fragments with their ‘home planet’ and in other cases it may be irrelevant as perhaps they may be too damaged or too ancient. I’d certainly be very curious to read your own thoughts on this, looking forward to that!
Yes – David Cowan – he was what brought me to your pages here, after I read your review of his book! I’m very keen to read his stuff, I have such a strong intuition that he’s on to something, and maybe it will all make sense after I’ve tackled his book – is it ‘Earth energies’? I know he talks about the disruption of the chi because of people building near cemeteries and stuff like that – of course I live near a cemetery and my house is always full of things! Do you not feel ley lines physically yourself? I always get something like an electrical charge travel up my spine, if I follow it, it tends to work a bit like dowsing rods, I’ve had this since I was tiny, I used to think there was something wrong with me!! I lost the pair of rods I had years ago, so have to rely on my own ‘nose’ these days! What I saw in Cornwall astonished me, and I guess it probably is different for everyone, but the land really does seem to have a strong personality, ‘she’ most definitely converses and will let you know if she likes you or not! My friend said she knew of many people who were rejected by Cornwall, who moved there and who’s affairs fell apart as if they were being harried away. It was wonderful some evenings to hear the wind come out of nowhere to answer our ideas and intuitions! I ‘saw’ a very structured network of sites myself, in fact I got glimpses of a very ancient civilization having used them, I’m sure Men-an-Tol was once a huge thing, more like the horns of consecration in Crete, and there’s no doubt that the ring acts as a powerful resonator. The ancients must have known about the properties of sound and quartz and how it interacts – fascinating and something that you can see for yourself if you take a singing bowl with you to a stone circle, I think they sort of made the stones ‘sing’ maybe to the star constellations they’re aligned to!
Sorry for the long ramble there! Thanks for your advice about Wincobank too Gwas, I’m planning on visiting this week (now Easter is over and I have time!) so I will keep you posted 🙂
Liz
Gwas – I just wanted to thank you for doing that dowsing regarding Wincobank, I’ve just spotted it on the comments, I will have to re-read it and take stock of that, then have a think about what to do.
I’d like to discuss my trip to Cornwall with you, but I think it would stretch credulity as far as you’re concerned, if you thought restoring Robin Hood to Sherwood forest was a tough call! All I can say is that my trip was astonishing beyond anything I’ve ever encountered on this path, I went alone to stay with my friend, and we worked about five sites while we were there, it was what you might call a working holiday, no site-seeing, just visiting the sites we felt drawn to (I became the human dowsing rod BTW!!) and then spending hours after dark dissecting everything until we fell into bed at some ridiculous hour, then repeated the process the following day. It was intense and I felt as if we were on a real mission. Cornwall is a primaeval heart chakra but badly damaged. I even got to visit Carn Brea which was the inspiration for Tolkein’s vision of Saron – the tower with the eye on top (?) That monument is a hateful suppressive dagger through the Michael Mary line – it was eerie and powerful though, I could feel the energy dragging on my sacral chakra. I learned that it had been a ‘tree of life’ site in ancient times (according to the old tin miner spirit of place) but had been deliberately rededicated to the male logos Christian energies. Please thank Kal for whatever he or you both did at Nine Maidens, the site was pristine energetically, we didn’t have to do anything, we just took the tuning forks and singing bowls and did! As for Men-an-Tol – OMG!! We summoned cloud and it rained – I kid you not! You have no idea how powerful the energy there was Gwas, whatever you sent to us, as a unit combined with mine and my Druidess partner, it was awe inspiring, in fact it bordered on the frightening as that singing bowl pitch began to resonate in the actual skies and cows began to cry out at us! I can’t thank you enough for all your work, you are doing something, which I think you hardly even grasp the importance of, I know with the messages I received from Kernow, that we are a much needed army in these ‘interesting’ times. I’m going freezing cold as I type, so something was triggered with all our combined energies! Have you been to Lanyon Quoit? That site needs a HUGE amount of work, mostly moving trapped spirits and bottle-necked energy, it was bone-chillingly cold on that site. It seems that we need to think of these various sites as a system, if you look in an area, each site marks something that was a part of an energy system for the ancients, does that make sense to you? Oh so much I want to tell you Gwas, but I’ll see how it all unfolds and get back to you. So many missed posts on Hedge Druid too!! 🙂
Much love
Liz (and Tamsin) 🙂
>> Wincobank – let me know whether your local knowledge agrees with my remote work?
>> Deviceless dowsing – it’s surely the next evolution from dowsing with instruments, to become so attuned to the body as an instrument of detection?
>> Men-An-Tol – glad you found the energy useful. I know what you mean about summoning cloud/rain. Kal seems to be able to summon the sun when he needs it, and I have a propensity for clouds and rain (which may be moon-related, or something to do with air spirits, which are my ‘natural’ allies?). I felt that you were going to do something powerful there, so I left and energy parcel for you to use.
>> Trapped spirits – been listening to Christian Kyriacou recently. He has an interesting take on spirit release, and seems to consider that we should think more in terms of how to re-balance and re-align energy rather than releasing spirits. This idea seems to resonate well with me and has made me re-think my attitude to the whole concept. Will explain in a post when I’ve worked it through mentally and practically.
>> Part of an energy system – some have speculated on ley line systems like arteries of energy (Tom Graves/John Michell), others have considered it to be a circuit of linked sites (David Cowan). I think there is also the astrological “as above, so below” principle in action with the placement of sites on the landscape. I think they might map to constellations over a localised area in order to “attract”, “reflect” or “attune to” the star patterns above. Only an un-tested feeling at the moment.
What an interesting trip for you both! Can’t wait to get back down there myself. Since I read Paul Broadhurst’s “The Secret Landscape” I have so many places I want to visit now. If only I had clones of myself….?
Gwas.
Not fair. Putting this up on April 4 is a clear violation of the rules.
It was the only way I could catch out the clever people who inhabit this blog space! I knew you’d never go for it if it appeared on time. And hey – since when has anything we’ve ever posted been on time?
