Oh blimey! We’re so far behind with our posts. Here’s one from the early part of June that I’ve just got around to. It’s the second part of the story of our Wales visit during the Venus Transit early in the month. I think I put “Mid June” at the start of the last post, but actually it was early June. Wishful thinking! I’m determined not to fall further than a month behind with these posts. We’ve got so much to tell you still! Onwards!
In this post I will tell you about some dowsed history of Dinas Emrys, and then another experiment we did with sound and chakra points. The scene starts with curtain up on a wide valley steeped in wisps of flowing mist like the breath 0f a Welsh green dragon filling the world with its presence.
Breath of the Dragon
As we turned the corner and passed over the crest of the A498 heading towards Beddgelert were were greeted by a sight that literally made us gasp in astonishment and wonder. The sweeping panorama of the lake and valley of Nantgwynant is stunning on any day of the year, but today there were wisps of cloud hanging on to the sides of the mountains that made the whole scene magical. Snowdon had never looked more mysterious, and broad smiles were pasted to our faces for the rest of the journey into the valley below.
Parking in one fo the handy lay-bys at the side of the road we got our wet-weather gear ready, despite the humidity. It was definitely going to rain. It had been raining all morning everywhere around us on the journey in. All surfaces were wet and slippery. I put my sturdy boots on. Kal went in trainers. He surely had to expect wet feet again?
We climbed over the iron gate, got to the path, and climbed up past the static caravans up the less steep side of the hill to the first plateau. Once reached I reminded Kal that this was the place where the mythological red and white dragons had their battle as Merlin and King Vortigern watched. Kal ignored this wonderful piece of information and reminded me that his vertigo had gone. I’m sure he misheard me!
However one conceives of the symbolism of the red and white dragons and their epic battle there is scope for finding out more information if one trusts to the intermediary powers of the dowsing rods. What I mean is – even though we didn’t literally know whether there had been battling dragons here, or whether these were representations of two competing energies, we could still ask questions about the tussle providing we put the question correctly enough to be understood by whatever needed to understand it in order to answer us.
So I asked the dowsing rods to take me to the place where the red and white dragons had last been competing with each other for supremacy. I was taken to the same place as the last time I dowsed the question – to a small rectangular area, now quite boggy, which was positioned at the top of what seemed like a long grassy ramp.
I dowsed some questions related to the ‘battle’ between the energies:-
- Had there been a single battle of these forces? NO
- Was someone named Merlin involved in one of the battles between these forces? YES
- What date had the last such battle between the red and white ‘dragons’ taken place? By a process of elimination – 1164.
Further dowsing ont his subject revealed that 1164 CE was the last time that a magician neutralised the battling dragon energies at this site. He became known as the ‘Merlin’ of his time. Prior to that the “original” Merlin had been the one to perform the same act of reconciling or neutralising the red and white streams. Interesting stuff! Let’s see how that matches up with known historical records….
The Uprising of 1164 and Merlin

Could there perhaps have been a ritual performed by a “Merlin”-titled person at Dinas Emrys to bring about peace to the Welsh lands for there was certainly a unification of the Northern and Southern Princes of Wales against King Henry II? Who knows? Just a bit of conjecture.
The Subtle Sound Experiment
Our next work was inside the remains of the structure on the top of Dinas Emrys. I had once read Hamish Miller’s book “In Search of the Southern Serpent”, and heard him speak of his travels to New Zealand. On one such visit he was in the company of a Maori girl who sat upon a power centre and sang. Miller dowsed the energies before and after the song and concluded that the girld had used sound and harmony to increase the value of the subtle energies there. I wanted to repeat the experiment on a power centre within Dinas Enrys.
I used my staff to create some subtle energy in a space that didn’t have any. I created a simple two-circle spiral and dowsed whether my standing on the spot made any difference to the subtle energy – it didn’t. I stood on the spot and began to intone my five vowel sounds that I used to energise my chakra points (these were the most harmonic sounds I could produce). At each sound Kal would dowse for changes to the pattern of the energy. After each sound there was no change.
By the fourth sound Kal asked if ANY sound I made would cause a change to the energy formation – NO, was the blunt answer. Then we asked if intention could change the energy pattern. The dowsing rods said YES, so we did the experiment one last time. This time I intended some energy to go into the pattern. Kal dowsed the pattern and found that the spiral formation was much wider than it had been before I had released the intention.
Our conclusion had to be that subtle energy is not affected by sound, but by intention. People may make sounds on a spot, but unless they accompany the sound with some intention to increase or change the energy, then nothing will result from producing sound alone. The real driver to change in subtle energy form is intention. We were satisfied with our work and so cleared things up and restored the balance of energies at the site. Then we went off to work on our own for a while. I had things I wanted to ask about the forthcoming Summer Solstice event.

I’m sure you must think I’m a nutty old bint Gwas, but remember I told you about a dream I had where you and Kal were urging me to sing? What you were showing me was that it was the ‘intention’ behind it that mattered. I just think its a weird coincedence I should have this dream probably about the same time you had this experience 🙂
Well, I think we’ve already recognised that in some deeply mystical and I unfathomable way out spiritual paths entwine, whether in dreams, in print, or in our co-created reality. 🙂
Thank you Gwas, I feel very much the same, sometimes its quite spooky and I’ve had a number of weird coincidence dreams about you, which I’ve not mentioned as I wasn’t sure quite how you’d respond, but this one was the most powerful and profound as I say 🙂
Could not agree more! I recently had the blessing of sitting at the lip of a large natural well. Around the area the energies were immense and I was able to find a small spot and settle myself into them. At one point I immediately felt the urge to begin vocalizing soft song. No words, mind you, more of a humming and non-word chant. I started but didn’t really feel anything happening. Then, I felt the urging that I needed to not just “nonsense sing” but to have a focus for that expression, some form of intent. The minute I chose the intent and began to let that shape the vocals, well, the energy began to move and build.
Ah, now this is getting more and more interesting. I was all set to dismiss the link between sound and energy, but then you have re-ingited the urge to explore this.
There is something relating to the energy body’s power points (or chakras) that’s for sure. There’s more work to be done with this. Some concepts have been dismissed, but others remain, and I am still keen to find the link between energy and sound, other than in a cymatic sense.

But this one sir has grabbed my attention as I have always been drawn to the days of Camelot and of course Merlin ! I must admit I do have a bit of infatuation with information or lore of the Arthurian Age. It seems to me sir I am literally quite obsessed with the lore and to me it is as if I have been born into the wrong century, 848 years too late as the lifestyle and landscapes seem all like home to me. I await your second post to this blog with anticipation!.

It has been a real treat and an education for me to find that the Arthurian symbolism is the meme through which my interactions with landscape and spirit are filtered. It’s not something I ever took an interest in except in passing, but now it is at the very heart of my spiritual path.
To be stood up on Dinas Emrys in the lush green landscape amid the wreaths of fine mist, and gazing down that incredible valley across those dark waters…. I can only try to explain the feeling. It is something that shapes my soul.
