Lunch time was ignored in the pursuit of quests on our second day at Iona. I was astonished from the findings of the previous hour i.e. the questions on the beach. As we discussed this and Gwas’s adventures we walked along to the south side of the Island to a megalith that Gwas wanted to visit. As we trudged through the marshy (yes wet feet again!) land I saw a bright white stone atop a rise off to the west. It was about half a mile away but the sun was catching it so invitingly and as you know, I am a Sun Boy so I left Gwas to go on alone and I began the slow, wet and driven climb towards this remarkable stone.
I’ve been asked a few times, “why? why did you climb up to that stone?” At that moment I had only one answer. It was inviting me to do so. Yes, that’s enough for me. It was a long and arduous climb, given the fact that I was recovering from a heart challenge of only a month ago. Still do or die. Yes, really, do or die. It was a meandering and water filled journey up to the stone but finally I made it. Phew!
I dowsed around the stone and found that it had tremendous potential for me. Sit with your back to me and embrace the sun it sang and so I did. As I sat there I pondered life. There was no reason for me to ponder it, it just so happened that that was where my thoughts were drawn. A thought struck me. I had completed my Knights Quest a few months (only a few months ago? Gosh) and yet what had that left me with? It was a curious chain of thoughts that led me to an interesting door.
You must actively practice your knightly code. Go out and seek adventure that promotes your knighthood.
One (or indeed you) may ask where that thought came from? I don’t do much of that anymore. My usual modus operandi is to give it the once over in terms of…Is it interesting? Is it fun? Is it exciting? Is it different? Then what the hey! Go for it! So I was being asked to be more engaging with my knightly duties? So be it. Rock on.
Then a strange feeling occurred inside of me. I felt the urgent need to return back to civilisation i.e. the more populous art of the island. Why? I had no idea but the urge was tremendous. So much so that I didn’t even wait for Gwas and began making my way back through mud and marsh to the village.
I slowed down my pace as much as I could to give Gwas a chance to catchup but I was literally being dragged back towards the hotel. At some point Gwas caught up with me and questioned my speed and eagerness to return. I was clueless.
An hour later we had arrived back in the village and as we walked through the one main street, I saw what I had been rushed back for…
Look out for the final post on my Ionian exploits, when the Knights journey is revived.
