Although many ancient mounds are compared to the figures of women, and thus considered to be homages to female deities or Nature ‘herself’, it seems as though this is not just an ancient admiration. Recently the incredible new land sculpture known as “Northumberlandia” was opened to the public near the town of Cramlington. The park is one large sculpture, reclaimed from industrial use, and said to be the biggest in the country. Enticingly, it is a depiction of a lady with everything on display (if you have an aerial view).

The wonderful stone circle and avenues of Callanish on the Isle of Lewis form the shape of a human figure in their layout, but they also stand opposite a skyline feature that is seen as a similar, natural version of The Goddess in the land. This is called “The Sleeping Beauty” (or “Cailleach na Mointeach“).

Last year I was fortunate enough to visit the town of Antequera in Spain which had a female in the landscape too, known as La Peña. She looked like a sleeping giant with an incredibly striking profile:
So, this year, I intend to make it up to Northumberland to take a look at this amazing figure. Of course, I’ll let you know how it “feels”, energy-wise.
