We had left the church on a deflated but encouraging note, stopped off for some food and were ready to take the afternoon in our stride. Our sights were set on a sacred stone circle. Now there are many sites out there that are nameless and often just marked as ‘stone circle’ or ‘standing stone’ or indeed Menhir (‘stone long’). The sacred site that we arrived at in the early afternoon was just that, unnamed stone circle.
It was one of those rare occasions that I had been the one to spot it. Of course there was the obligatory trudge through mud and field. Fortunately you will be shocked to hear, I had purchased some walking boots having finally had enough of wet foot syndrome. So we had made it to the site that would propel us (we hoped) in to 2013.
Although the sun was out there was a fresh bitter wind blowing so I was of the opinion of a quick commune. Again, fortune was favouring us because this site had brilliant and strong energy. It’s been a while since I had been to site (at a time) when it was so strong. Even in the cold wind I wanted to do some investigation. I asked for the strongest energy flow (note not centre) and got my desire. I was led along a flow that was wrapping itself strongly around each of the stones. A powerful pull that was difficult to break from. Good, I thought, this should provide for some revealing divination.
Dropping into my usual path, I asked for the best place to commune and was taken to a spot just off the centre of the circle. I stood in that spot facing the sun and awaited inspiration. Only moments were needed when guidance and direction came through. You recall from an earlier post that my purpose for Imbolc was to discover what question needed to be asked of the Oracle at Delphi. That answer came through quite clearly.
- What is the key to the Dragons Soul book?
On reflection, that was the question I had had in mind too so it was unsurprising although I would liked something more exotic. Still journeyers cannot be choosers. I was about to conclude my meditation when an old teacher popped in.
Caileach! I hadn’t had a missive from her in a long age, relatively speaking of course. As breath-taking and beautiful as ever, I eyed her questioningly: What did she have to say on the matter? She smiled her now familiar and enigmatic smile. “How is my knight?”
Look, you guys should know me by now, I am not the best for following advice or for being in bondage to supernatural beings. And it still irks me when I am addressed in such a manner. So it was with a rueful look that I asked my mentor what gifts she had brought.
“You will need to take the knights mantle with you to Delphi.” she said and was gone.
That was it! No explanation, no notion of what it would be, was she talking literally or figuratively? Was I to buy a cloak? Nothing but that riddle. Lovely! You see? My trepidation with her comings and goings is justified, right?
If we hadn’t had another site in mind, Maiden Castle, I would have been worried. But there was a chance that the final stop on our Imbolc pilgrimage would reveal what the knights mantle was.
