I suspect that you’re a bit intrigued by the title? Well, it was an intriguing day down in the South West. I was at Belas Knap long barrow with a friend and I was enjoying the sunshine. I had absorbed as much of the sun as possible, and done a ritual to retain it. Now I was ready to see what it was I would discover as my quest for the next part of The Wheel of the Year – from Samhain to Winter Solstice.

I extricated myself from the tail of the ‘serpent’ barrow and asked my dowsing rods to lead me to a place where I could discover my quest for the next part of the year. The rods began to sway and I began to follow. Now such a repeated and familiar pattern that I was easily able to traverse the barrow’s undulations to arrive at the entrance to the chamber which was on the sunny side of the structure. Not the chamber I had used for work before, but everything had changed since Kal so I wasn’t surprised.

Samhain 2015 was spent at Belas Knap near to Winchcombe in Gloucestershire. The long barrow had been appearing all week beforehand in background pictures on my computer and I took this as a sign that it was the right place. This would be the second festival date without Kal, but this time I had a fellow traveler – and I will hopefully tell you more about that in the near future as it becomes a regular thing.

In the morning I had been listening to the radio and the program had been talking about this time of year being a time to remember “saints known and unknown“. That might be something that I could bear in mind?

The journey was misty almost all the way down to Gloucestershire. A cold dull day loomed, but then as we rose up towards the ridge where the long barrow was located the way cleared and a strong warm sun was waiting for us.

The sun’s appearance began burning back the morning mists until, from a vantage point on top of the ridge, a cinematic view emerged. The barrow was perched in a ridge which seemed to rise out of the surrounding mists like the romantic pictures of The Isle of Avalon.

I had decorated my staff that morning for some reason, and the jangling sound of the attached necklaces accompanied our walk to the barrow through the old woodland tunnel.

As we walked bees kept buzzing in the air around me, catching my attention on a regular basis, as though saying “We’re still here!”. They were so insistently loud, and it seemed almost as though they were following me. We made a “bee line” for the barrow.

So the Autumn Equinox arrived. It would be my first outing without Kal being around. I had to steel myself to make the preparations to go, but I did so knowing that I could spend a day out in Nature and take some time to go to a place that he loved.

I knew where I was intending to go. The place had been suggested to me by my water spirit guide. Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall had all the elements I needed to fulfill The Song of the Waters – a fall, a river and a pool – water in three conditions.

Never Ride The Lonely Road…

For some reason I wanted you to hear the first few seconds of this “Lo-Fidelity Allstars” track which has a rather creepy snippet of cautionary advice. I’d recommend the album by the way – it’s one of my all-time favourites. It came to mind as I began to write this.

I didn’t know where I would be going today. On previous visits Kal and I had usually gone fairly quickly up to the top, but today I felt like I wanted to spend more time at the bottom half. Following the dowsing rods I was taken into the woodland alongside the waterfall and specifically to a junction point where two paths met.

This was my preparation place and I asked permission to create a posy of wild flowers – Herb Robert and Bracken primarily. I laid the posy at the meeting point of the paths. It felt symbolic and reminiscent simultaneously. I let out s sigh…this was going to be a long road back to The Way…

Lammas 2015 P7 – The Troll of Carnasserie Castle

After a hearty breakfast at the Loch Melfort Hotel – a hotel with stunning lake views and roaming highland cattle – we checked out and made our way back to Kilmartin. We had passed signs on the edge of Kilmartin for a castle called Carnasserie, and this would be our first stop today. Later we would head to the museum, but first we wanted to take a look at the castle.

Kal and I split up to work separately, as usual. I asked for a place of preparation, and the dowsing rods took me over to the remains of what appeared to be an old outer wall or tower, which now afforded a stunning view of the valley below. This was located to the north side of the Renaissance castle.

As I began to allow myself to attune to the vibrations and energy frequencies of the surroundings a feeling emerged that this was the last of the summer’s energies that I was feeling. I sighed. Even though we had been spared any rain or storms for the duration of our visit, I felt that the strength of the summer energy was at last on the wane.

My attention was directed to my new water Spirit Guide. She said to me “Water is coming.”. I looked up, my attention moving to face the current wind direction where I saw from the cloud cover that there was every possibility that it was going to rain soon. In fact, later that day as we headed home it was incredibly wet! Pouring down for the whole journey! She was right.

When I asked the dowsing rods to take me to the location of the Spirit of Place for the castle I was taken right back to where I was standing! I had been in the right spot anyway. I decided to tune into a different frequency – that of the Spirit of Place- and so I held that notion in my head and then settled into a mindless state of meditation, waiting until I got to the right level and wondering if the spirit would want to communicate with me. It did.

We had passed a tall standing stone – The Kintraw Standing Stone – on the way to the hotel, and had said that it would be nice to visit it at sunset. So it was that we arrived at the stone just as the sun was sinking behind the dark hills.

I wasn’t feeling this stone spiritually. To me it felt like an energetic investigation was required. There was something to learn.

I stood at the base of the stone. I could feel the stone draw down the last remaining rays of the sun. At this time it was slowing the intake and about to start turning around from drawing in to giving out.

I wondered whether it gave out energy during the evening. I dowsed where the energy output would be for a New Moon – I found a field boundary three feet away from the base of the stone. Then I dowsed where it would be on a Full Moon like tonight – I had to walk some forty feet away to find the extent!

Now it was time to get back to those amazing sites in Kilmartin Glen which had been energised by our work in the day, and which seemed to promise much more this full moon evening.
