Spring 2015-P4 – Dark Shadows at Dale

Angels, Dolmens and Chambers, Spirit of Place

The next stop on our Easterly journey was to another place that we had visited only once before – Dale Hermitage. The hermitage is a rock-cut chamber scoured from the sandstone above the village of Dale Abbey. The abbey of the village name if a scant ruin now, and the hermitage is much more energetically interesting.

As we walked through the wood the chill wind reminded us that last time we had visited it was Beltane and much warmer than today. We walked swiftly seeking out the sanctuary of the hermit’s shelter, yet I had time to stop at some new rabbit holes in order to pick up three small white quartz pebbles that caught my attention. We are just rock-shifters, after all.

Descend steeply to Dale Hermitage

The Hermitage feels too nice to have Underworld qualities, despite being down some steep steps. Inside it relatively light and airy. We had lunch, took photos and milled around. It was like we were waiting for something to happen, or afraid to start something! I casually asked Kal why the place was considered sacred. Kal looked at me as though to say “Read The Flaming Manual!” and pointed me to the nearby information sign. Didn’t I have legs? I was just being lazy, so I went to read the sign.

It’s a sign, I tell you! A miraculous sign!

The information sign told me that the Hermit of the Hermitage was guided by the appearance of Virgin Mary. Given what I had been reading recently this could just as easily have been Bride/Brigit. That’s a long discussion for another time.

Spring 2014 – The Earth and Fire Angels

Posted on March 31, 2014March 26, 2014 By Gwas 1 Comment on Spring 2014 – The Earth and Fire Angels
Angels, Elemental

The third elemental angel was found at the end of one of the muddiest walks I have ever done. I think there was barely a moment on the walk when Kal wasn’t complaining – but that’s what you get if you wear inappropriate clothing. This is Cumbria!! We parked at Long Meg stone circle, just … Read More “Spring 2014 – The Earth and Fire Angels” »

Ash in the Woods

Posted on March 21, 2014March 18, 2014 By Gwas No Comments on Ash in the Woods
Angels, Hedge Druidry, Spirit Guides

In the third and final part of my jaunt to Alderley Edge I will talk about my experiences with my Spirit Guide, Ash. We’re still getting to know each other, it feels, yet one thing I do know about his reason for working with me is that he wants to know more about the say that subtle energy forces form, move and change in relation to this planet. No problem! So do I!

Before I came to the woods I felt like I might be asking him about the way ahead for this year – what we could be doing together to make progress for both of us. Kal and I were half way down the cliff face of The Edge by this time. Where would I need to go in order to meditate effectively with my spirit guide, I asked the dowsing rods? They swung to point me further down the hill, then along a very muddy path towards the Alderley town side of the woods. I was on my own this time – Kal had been diverted off in a different direction. This work was mine alone.

Alderley Edge - March 2014 (5)

Soon I was climbing upwards, away from the muddy path, and up the steep Edge sides towards a peak lit by the last rays of sunlight streaming through the tall bare beech branches. Almost like a beacon I was heading for the still-lit summit, a knoll where I knew what awaited me. Years of wandering through the woods meant that I knew most of the main features in any season’s garb. There was a small cave on top.

2012 – Summary of the Year by Gwas

Ancient Sites

My summary of the year could easily take up several posts, but I’m not going to do that. Instead, I’m going to highlight the many important distinct elements that have taken place this year, and then provide links to the posts that illustrate these elements. On the whole it has been an amazingly packed, dense, active year. … Read More “2012 – Summary of the Year by Gwas” »

Ionian Equinox 7 – The Giant, the Glaistig and the Omphalos

Posted on October 17, 2012 By Gwas No Comments on Ionian Equinox 7 – The Giant, the Glaistig and the Omphalos
Ancient Sites, Dowsing, Wheel of the Year

At the end of the preceding post I had been tainted by a dark energy whilst attempting to dissipate it from a ring of granite stones placed on a promontory of the western shores of Iona. Now I was acting intuitively, allowing myself to be guided towards the steps I needed to take to cure myself of this dark energy ‘poison’.

Kal had taken immediate action. He had protected himself from being similarly affected, and then had begun a process of feeding energy into my area so that I could use it to heal. The first action I took was to staff to assist with making an energetic shield that I could use to shelter from the imposing “gaze” of the forces that I had alerted and whose attentions I had attracted by messing with the dark circle. I felt a searching, a scouring, malevolent stare that was scanning the area around the stones from high above. I felt like a giant face was in the clouds looking down trying to find out who had triggered an alarm on the ground below. The shield went up but I wasn’t sure how long it would last. More action was needed and quickly, or I would be either located or pass out with this nauseating sickness I felt!

The neutralising waters of the sea around Iona

A voice came into my head offering me advice…

“Get the staff to the shore“, and then “You will be alright when you reach The Stone.”

It was in my voice, of course, which always raises the question of the source of such information, yet in these circumstances, and with my recent encounters with helpful force, I wasn’t questioning the sagacity of the advice so long as it sounded reasonable. I half-stumbled, half-ran in a dizzy fuzzy state towards the nearby sound of the waves lapping on the shoreline. I knew which stone was being referred to – my next intended destination for the day – Clach na Glaistig. For now, my priority was to rescue the staff.

As I reached the shore I walked the edges where the water touched the sand. With each gentle wave touching my shoes and surrounding the ash staff things began to alleviate – the dizziness began to wear off a little so that my vision cleared up. I could also feel the staff “neutralise”. This is a difficult thing to explain. Holding the staff I can often feel it get energised when working at sacred sites. At this moment I felt whatever charge it held was being drained away – as thought it was a battery being discharged by the salt water. As I reached the end of the cove’s shoreline the staff felt balanced again – neutral. A long sigh emerged from me. It was safe. Now there was only me to worry about.

Kal still kept his distance, recognising that I was still tainted with dark energy, yet with each step across the island towards the stone I felt better, clearer, and more in control again. I re-doubled my protection from being discovered, and then we began to walk over the short-cropped wind-swept grassy chalkland towards the distant hills that led to the southern end of the island. On the way I kept seeing white feathers in my path. Being still in an “angelic” mindset I picked them up. They only seemed to be in my path, not Kal’s, and they often blew towards me as I picked them up. Soon I was carrying about five small white feathers which I then put into my bag. They would come in useful at the stone, I felt.

Ionian Equinox 5 – The Otherworld and Other Worlds

Posted on October 9, 2012 By Gwas 2 Comments on Ionian Equinox 5 – The Otherworld and Other Worlds
Ancient Sites, Dowsing, Energy cleansing, Energy work, Hedge Druidry, Staff, Wheel of the Year

At the start of Day 2 on Iona we were greeted by cloudy weather. This can’t be right? Let’s see whether that continues when Kal gets out into the open! He always brings the sun out. Kal was a bit tired from his exploits the previous evening. I’ll let him explain that. I had slept well, whereas he was paying back the time he’d borrowed. Tiredness would turn out to be the least of our challenges this day. Iona has been probably the most intellectually and spiritually challenging places we have visited yet. As you read the rest of my posts you will begin to see how it made me have to grapple with lots of concepts that I had thought were the realm of New Age dreamers, or the stuff of pure mythology. On Iona, mythology seems to be made real for the seeker! Judge for yourself.

Our intended destinations for the day had been largely decided by the available sites as listed on the Northern Antiquarian WordPress blog. We had scheduled to visit Sidhean Mor, then a hillfort called Dun Bhuirg north of that, and finally to backtrack to head to the southern tip of the island to see a standing stone called Clach na Glaistig. This post will cover the first of these sites, and subsequent posts will describe an adventure from high to low and back again. In this post we’ll meet some otherworldly forms, and begin to fulfil a major part of my quest to Iona, that of finding an alien energy spot. More on that soon. There’s some even stranger stuff to get through before we get to that!

Belief and Angels

This time last year I didn’t believe in angels. Well, let me say instead, I had no reason to believe in angels. They were, after all, not part of my Nature pantheon. I had encountered elementals, nature spirits, and to some extent the energetic remainders of humans. The realms of ‘higher’ energy forms – angels and demons – that was something I steered well clear of. Until one unexpected encounter in a graveyard. After that, I moved my position one notch up – from “Have had no experience of that” to “Have had one experience of that“. This makes me slightly less dubious and a tinge more accepting of the possibility of angels. but not at this point a believer.

Angel Hill – same profile as Oran’s mound and Glastonbury Tor

Next on our tour of Iona was the so-called Angel Hill, a hill where it is reputed that Columcille (St.Columba) was observed to be surrounded by a host of angels. Well, what would happen for us?

The Shining Ones: re-acquiring ancient knowledge

The Shining Ones: re-acquiring ancient knowledge
Dowsing, Other reports

There have been many wild and fantastic suggestions and theories about the coming of the group known enigmatically as The Shining Ones. Some “theorists” have said that they were so called because they gave off an unearthly light, or that they were extra-terrestrial visitors who came down to give knowledge to the human race to … Read More “The Shining Ones: re-acquiring ancient knowledge” »
