Spring 2015-P1 – Journey into the Centre of the Turf

Spring began properly for us with a long drive across country to the barren eastern parts of these islands. We had been this direction before, and this area really makes you work for your visit! I had chosen to go East as this direction is associated with Spring, and it was a direction in which I could find an old turf maze. Given my recent tarot draw, I knew that labyrinthine paths could be the order of the day, and so it was.

Wing Turf Maze

The day began early. We had long miles to cover. As I drove down the motorway I was gladdened by the sight of the dawning sun. Such a good omen for our outing – clear skies and sunshine.

1 - Spring Dawning (5)
Spring Equinox dawn sunshine from the motorway

On arrival at the small village of Wing the day was shaping up nicely. Kal had a portent of what was to come soon and half-jokingly said that we should just go to the maze then drive home. We were here now, and Nature was calling us both and so we nipped into the nearby woodland.

On the way out I felt like I was walking the wrong way. I got snagged on branches and dead brambles. Nature was telling me that I was going the wrong way, and so I back-tracked and followed the dowsing rods on a more energetically compatible path. Heed the signs!

I emerged onto the main road where an ash tree’s unusual bent bough met the top of my head. This was the place to stop, I felt, and so I began the cleaning process that has become a regular preparation feature of any sacred visit. This process included a vision, though, which was of a lightning strike from above and below meeting in the middle, meeting in me. I felt instantly cleansed!

Now for the maze itself.

Summary of the Year 2014 – Chris

Posted on January 25, 2015January 23, 2015 By Chris No Comments on Summary of the Year 2014 – Chris
Yearly Update

Taking a leaf from Kal’s book I will summarise my year in terms of the quests that I have been involved with. The year had many more facets than this, but I think the quests are the important factors, as they form a developmental framework for my druidry work. They show the progress of my spiritual quest. Ultimately, for me, that’s what this blog is about.

I will put the quests into a chronological order, but also show how they relate to the tarot reading that I did at the start of the year. I quickly lost sight of this as I began to work, but now I have re-visited it to see just how the reading relates to the activities of the year.

TAROT FOR THE YEAR

My tarot reading for the year was done using the Tree Angel Oracle deck. This seems appropriate, as the sacred trees of the druids match the lunar cycles. The cards were drawn to show either a sign or a challenge – something that would guide me onwards, or that I would have to overcome in order to progress.

Here are the cards listed against their positions in the Celtic Wheel of the Year:-

  1. IMBOLC – Ivy (sign)
  2. SPRING EQUINOX – Rowan (sign)
  3. BELTANE – Blackthorn (sign)
  4. SUMMER SOLSTICE – Almond (sign) + Elder (challenge)
  5. LAMMAS – Hawthorn (sign)
  6. AUTUMN EQUINOX – Elm (sign) + Lime (sign)
  7. SAMHAIN – Juniper (challenge)
  8. WINTER SOLSTICE – Birch (sign)

What follows is the detail of the year’s work. See whether it coincides with any of your own work this year – if it does, let us know!

Tarot for Elemental Angels

Posted on April 3, 2014April 4, 2014 By Gwas 2 Comments on Tarot for Elemental Angels
Elemental Angels, Tarot

As you know I can’t say the name of the elemental angels that I am working with, but I can tell you something about them and their role in my future. I did a tarot reading asking one fundamental question – what is the nature of their relationship with me? The results chimed so clearly with the drawn cards and with the way that I experienced their arrival that I felt I had to write it down.

In the detail below some recurring themes emerged:-

  • the angels command and demand a great deal of respect
  • they offer the potential for a large amount of knowledge, skills and learning generally
  • there were lots of “vessels” cards indicating a strong emotional involvement
  • there were lots of “bows” cards indicating strong spiritual elements

Let me show you now how each of the draws revealed something useful about the forthcoming relationship.

Spring 2014 – The Earth and Fire Angels

Posted on March 31, 2014March 26, 2014 By Gwas 1 Comment on Spring 2014 – The Earth and Fire Angels
Angels, Elemental

The third elemental angel was found at the end of one of the muddiest walks I have ever done. I think there was barely a moment on the walk when Kal wasn’t complaining – but that’s what you get if you wear inappropriate clothing. This is Cumbria!! We parked at Long Meg stone circle, just … Read More “Spring 2014 – The Earth and Fire Angels” »

Spring 2014 – The Water Angel

Crystals, Elemental Angels, Wheel of the Year

There are plans, and then there are impromptu moments. Our plan was to go to the Borrowdale valley to see some ancient yew trees. Things were conspiring to slow me down to a crawl however. We literally drove at no more than 10mph along the edges of Derwentwater as we waited for cars to pass each … Read More “Spring 2014 – The Water Angel” »

Spring 2014 – The Air Angel

Posted on March 25, 2014March 24, 2014 By Gwas No Comments on Spring 2014 – The Air Angel
Angels, Elemental, Elemental Angels, Hedge Druidry, Wheel of the Year

Spring is here! Well, it’s beginning to feel a bit more spring-like, even if only briefly at the moment. Kal and I went out for the Ostara festival date on Thursday 20th March this year. We had contingency plans due to the weather. The day before had been fine and still. The day after would be the same. Yet Spring Equinox itself was dull, grey, cold and windy. In some ways we cursed our luck, but in others we got to see all four elements in one day. That was the theme of the whole day – elements.

Our first stop was Castlerigg Stone Circle – Cumbria’s jewel in the crown, so to speak. The wind had reached a ripping rate by the time we arrive and dark clouds were threatening rain. Nobody had to tell us that this was going to be a quick visit! Actually, no-one could, because apart from a lady who we helped get her van started, there was no-one else who dared to be out in the open at the circle on this special day. Sensible people? No, they missed out. Let me tell you why.

Castlerigg - Spring Equinox 2014 (4)

Usually we need some cleansing before we start, and we both wandered off to respective power centres. Luckily, the cleansing routine was fast and we soon moved on.

I asked the dowsing rods to find the correct place for me to work and I was taken by a long and winding route to The Sanctuary – a rectangular section within the circle itself. This was not the first time that this place had been identified as the best location for magickal working. My Spirit Guide Ash was invited to assist with the work, and his assistance would form part of the routine that I would use for the rest of this day.

The meditation is fast. I ask what will be coming this year and the response is that I will receive the help of “Elemental Angels” – the first of which will be an air angel. I am shown a clear picture of four forces, four entities, each surrounded by their own specific element. It is a fascinating image, and one that leaves me wanting more. I know that patience is key to this day’s work, so I relax away from the vision and begin to see whether this is the correct place to begin connecting with one of these ‘elemental angels’, as they are defined to me.

Time now to see if I can interact with one of these entities.
