Gwas and I spent a whole day in the Isle of Anglesey on Monday 25th of August. One place we visited was described as a burial chamber of ancient construction (aren’t all old sites related to burials? didn’t ancient people have anything better to do? Of course they did!)
Gwas, will no doubt add pictures and a name to this place [Gwas: “Lligwy chamber“] as I momentarily forget. Anyway as Gwas was investigating its energetic properties I sat on a ‘convenient’ stone by the entrance to the chamber, reflecting.
For some strange reason, I started to kick the back of my foot against the bottom of the stone, since I had trainers on this caused some vibrations. As I did this I felt that it was right that this place should have vibrations associated with it. I then got the urge to walk around the chamber, counter clockwise or ‘widdershins’ as was known in old times.
I walked around 3 or 4 times and then found myself compelled to continue, it wasn’t that I couldn’t stop, but more a case of that it was ‘natural’ to continue. The more I paced the faster I walked. But this seemed not enough and I felt the needed to have sound with the pacing, not only that but I felt as if six other people were walking with me! (Perhaps I was walking so fast to make up for there absances?)
As I continued to walk I began to clap my hands, but the sound wasn’t right. it seemed to flat and not ‘vibrational’ enough. So I changed to a kind of humming, a deep vibraional hum to begin, but as I got a sense of it – it turned to a melodical hum that changed pitch as I moved towards the entrance and back as I moved away.
During this time Gwas had entered the chamber and had a experience of his own which I am sure he will relate – in a comment perhaps?
I really felt the need of a drum whilst doing this perculiar walk, but humming would have to do. I continued on with this ‘ceremony’ for several minutes and then when I felt the site was ‘energised?’ I entered the chamber.
Gwas told me about his experience and had found a ledge within the chamber which seemed to him to be a fantastic place to lie and listen to someone pacing and humming outside. So our roles were reversed as he paced and hummed and I meditated within the chamber.
It was a unusual experience – made the more so because it seemed that the sound came from one direction only, even though Gwas was pacing all around the outside of the chamber.
However the piece de resistance has to be when Gwas brought into play a sound file of his mobile phone. It was the sound of drums, flutes and a kind of native american flavoured chanting. With this music floating in the air the vision that I had in the chambers ‘ledge’ was remarkable!
It began with several people sat around a small fire in the chamber. They seemed to be dressed in loin cloths only, so it must have been a vision of millenia ago. whilst they sat, outside there was the sound of several (seven?) people pacing, chanting and drumming – not too heavily just a low sound.
The people in the chamber – cave? – were nodding there heads back and to to the chanting outside but were silent otherwise. The fire was bright and flickering and it was in the night because no other sources of light were visible.
As the chanting reached a climax – though still subdued – a wind or smoke swirled in from the entrance and twirled around the chamber. At first it seemed like the wind to me but on more reflection it may have been a light blue/grey smoke.
The smoke swirled a few times around the chamber, quite fast really, and then was breathed in by the people sat on the floor. Thats an important distinction I think to make because it wasn’t the smoke that entered the people it was they that breathed it in through there noses.
As they did this – all at the same time – they sat up straight – and at first I thought that they had all changed into crows and flown up and out of the center of the chamber. However upon immediate reflection it was more that – their spirits or souls had transformed to ephemeral (ethereal) crows and had flowed out of the ‘stone’ covering the top of the chamber.
It was at this fantastic conclusion of the ceremony that I ‘returned’ to the chamber and found myself still hearing the native music playing. What a intriguing experience and just to add another note, the fields around the chamber are home to many crows!
Although Gwas suggests that the ‘ledge’ within the chamber may have been for a person to lie on, I feel that it was for ceremonial objects to be placed (and blessed/energised?) on.
Once I had had this vision I climbed out of the entrance – although I felt the urge to struggle out of a more tighter ‘exit’ – see Gwas’s post. Completion of the experience seemed to me to be to walk 3 times slowly around the chamber picking up my tools as I did and exit the site.
Although I was called in by Gwas a few minutes later I felt the strong urge not to enter the site ‘that day’ again.
Spiritual Crows!
A shamanic vision in a very spiritual place for Kal. My own vision, which Kal mentioned in his post, I will detail in my post of that day’s experiences. I’ve split the day into three, so watch out for those posts : Pt.1 is Bryn Celli Ddu, Pt.2 is about the Llanfechell stones, and Pt.3 is about this site – LLigwy ‘burial chamber’.
As usual, we both dowsed for answer as to whether the purpose of the site was burials, to which the answer was an indefatigable “NO”. The same answer every time we see the signs ‘Burial Chamber’. I’m tempted to compaign to get these signs re-worded, or at least ask for more conclusive proof than “we found a fragment of a human jaw bone one inch under the soil near the site.”
I must comment on the crow element too. I hadn’t really noticed any crows on our way to the site – maybe the occasional caw in the distance – but after Kal related his experrience, suddenly the crows could not be ignored! They caw-ed and rark-ed so loudly on our way back to the car, and they swirled around just above our heads, swooping into our view and around the trees near us, in a way that was almost like an invitation to watch an arial display of acrobatics. I swear, they “buzzed” us! It felt not the least bit like Hitchcock’s “The Birds”, and much more like we were being shown their importance and significance.
I suspect that we will begin to introduce more elements of walking the energies, and trying to find an attuned vibrational frequency as we visit more “burial chamber” sites in the future. These elements “charge you up” for a vision better than a meditative stillness, which seems to work better at sites linked to tree energies. I have been reading, too, that dancing and movement is linked to stone circles; vibrations possibly to standing stones. Much to experiment with!
