The Watcher at Nine Ladies

Posted on November 28, 2012September 14, 2026 By Gwas 1 Comment on The Watcher at Nine Ladies
Other Entities

Nine Ladies stone circle in Derbyshire has many interesting features, some of which are obvious, many of them are hidden. I have visited the circle on many occasions. It seems like every year I get drawn back to this circle at least twice, and this year has been no exception. This year I was at the circle for Samhain, and enjoyed the mysterious atmosphere of the conjunction of time and space that this moment represented. However, I was not alone.

Of course I went to the circle with Kal, and yes there were other people at the circle that night too. But that’s not what I mean. There was a strong hidden presence at the circle at Samhain, and it is one that I have identified before, but never spoken about. Now is the time for me to discuss it, because now it has been independently identified by three people, and in my mind that’s too much to be coincidence – especially as two of us have called the presence by the exact same name!

The stone circle has a Watcher.

Birch trees sheltering Nine Ladies stone circle

When I first ever visited Nine Ladies I did some dowsing that revealed the presence of an entity that was off to one side of the circle, located in a gap between some birch trees. I didn’t mention this to Kal at the time because he wasn’t really interested in things like that way back then. I didn’t do any further dowsing at that point. On another visit years later the dowsing rods directed me towards the same point when I asked about strong energies in the area. For some reason (which I now understand) I wasn’t inclined to follow the rods and locate the exact spot.

Then one day I visited the stone circle with my friend Mike and felt the presence strongly again. I wanted to know more. I tuned into the presence and tried to feel more about it. It was a ‘special day’ in the calendar, so I hoped the extra available energies might help me in this psychic questing. I got two things – a dark figure appeared to me as long as I didn’t directly look at it, and I got the feeling that the figure was simply watching the site. It wasn’t moving, or interacting, just… standing there…. observing. I called it The Watcher.

‘Dark Figure’ by GuitarGodd97

I wondered if anyone else would notice it. I challenged psychic Mike to see if he noticed any presence at the site too. He scanned the area and pointed to the exact spot I had identified previously. He said, “There’s a dark tall figure there, and I get the word ‘Watcher’ or ‘Watchman’.” Well, that pretty much blew me away. I was getting confirmation of my own findings by seeing the entity on several separate occasions, and now Mike was confirming the information I was getting. But was he reading my thoughts ir actually seeing something himself? I couldn’t be sure. Mike came out with some additional stuff too – “It doesn’t want to be bothered. It doesn’t want anyone to interact with it.” he qualified. OK – some extra stuff, but again he might be picking something up from me.

Then at Samhain this year I went to the circle with Kal. We hadn’t discussed what we’d be doing there, and indeed we both went off an did our own thing anyway. I can’t remember exactly how the discussion went, but at one point we reconvened and Kal started talking about a presence he’d noticed in the birch tree off to one side of the circle. Oh really, I cautiously encouraged. Do tell me more! “I feel like it’s watching what goes on in the circle, and I think it might be actually called a Watcher.” I’m para-phrasing, but that’s what he revealed. When I asked him for more he spoke of it being a tall dark figure. He said we shouldn’t do anything with it, like try to communicate with it, because it wanted to be left alone unseen.

Well, that was three sets of information all pointing out the same things: The Watcher, a tall dark figure, an observer, wanting to be left alone. All three of us saw this figure in the exact same spot. So, what the heck is it?

Watchers In History

The Watchers have traditionally been linked to angelic beings (Wikipedia). Watchers are mentioned in two ancient source texts from which much else has been derived. The first is in the Book Of Daniel in The Bible. In Daniel 4 there is a passage is a description of a dream of Nebuchadnezzar. He describes the dream like this:-

10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

12 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.

13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:

15 Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

16 Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beast’s heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

No wonder he was troubled. Cutting down The World Tree! The Watchers seem also to be known as The Grigori (Greek). Others call them the Dark Angels, but there are an equal number of references to light angels too – ones that have been on some kind of diet, I presume? Some consider them to be aliens – the Watchers In The Sky. There is a lot of crossover between the idea of aliens, angels and otherwordly entities in these interpretations.

Another popular source of information, especially in the ‘alternative’ circles, is The First Book of Enoch. In this text the following things are mentioned:

“2 From them I heard all things, and understood what I saw; that which will not take place in this generation, but in a generation which is to succeed at a distant period, on account of the elect.

3 Upon their account I spoke and conversed with him, who will go forth from his habitation, the Holy and Mighty One, the God of the world:

4 Who will hereafter tread upon Mount Sinai; appear with his hosts; and be manifested in the strength of his power from heaven.

5 All shall be afraid, and the Watchers be terrified”

 Modern references to Watchers

You might think that we had “done with” the concept of The Watchers, but modern versions have also surfaced into the human consciousness. Marvel Comics have given us a rendition whose description almost exactly matches the ancient accounts:

“The Watchers are one of the oldest species in the universe, and are committed to observing and compiling knowledge on all aspects of the universe.” (source: Wikpedia)

Uatu The Watcher – (c) Marvel Comics

There are also many films and TV programmes in which the Watcher concept has been used, usually with a similar idea of a mighty set of beings observing the activities of Earthlings.

What is their purpose – why don’t they want us to pay them any attention? I began to dowse for some answers to see how far I could get. Here are the questions I came up with:-

  1. Was it possible/beneficial to me to dowse The Watcher at Nine Ladies? – YES to both
  2. Were there any adverse effects of me doing so? YES – I would be drained energetically. If I protected myself I could slow these effects down, but it would still happen.
  3. Would it be aware that I was dowsing it? YES.
On to questions about The Watcher then….
  1. Is this Watcher the same entity as is being described in the two ancient texts? NO.
  2. Is this Watcher beneficent? YES.
  3. What is it watching? HUMANS. Anything else? NO.
  4. Are they watching specific humans? NO.
  5. Are they gathering information for themselves or reporting it to someone else? SOMEONE ELSE.
  6. Have they decided to be in their locations, or have they been stationed there? STATIONED. [Feeling tired now….]
  7. Was it a guardian? NO.
  8. Are they watching for specific activities? YES.
  9. Are those activities related to where they are stationed? YES.
  10. Are they geographically evenly spread? NO. Clustered in particular areas.
  11. Are they watching how we interact with something? YES. Entities? NO. Energy? YES. Earth energy? YES.
  12. Are they likely to be stationed at places on the planet where the activities of humans and earth energy are important? Strong YES.

Even though I was excited about getting this kind of information I felt “dowsed out” at this point. There was also a growing feeling that “this was enough”. It came from outside of the dowsing experience, through a connection that had inevitably formed with The Watcher itself by it being the subject of the dowsing. I decided to disconnect at this point and leave it there. That was enough to get me thinking anyway.

Gwas.
