It is a week away from the Spring Equinox and I was wondering. At our last outing a couple of weeks ago we went to Nine Stones close and I was informed that I would need to have merged with my Energy Double to be able to sustain a meeting with the Ice Dragon. What I was wondering was, did I need to merge before the equinox or during the equinox? And was any preparation required. To seek answers to these questions Gwas and I journeyed to the Wizards Wood in Alderley Edge.
Spring is definitely in the air! The weather has been sunny and filled with that ‘…the winter is over…’ feeling for a few days now and it is a time that Gwas and I rejoice in. As we drove to the forest we remarked on the feelings of newness. Another year of magic that we were stepping into.
We arrived at the woods and decided to let the rods take us to a suitable place to begin. It is a very rare occasion when the rods take us to divergent places and this wasn’t one of them. Gwas followed his rod and I followed mine. But remarkably we both went along almost the same route.
Four Elements
We both arrived at a suitable (the rods twirled) place and I sensed that it was a place of preparation and or cleansing. I’ve been asked on occasion. What do you do when you are standing on a place of grounding and preparation. The simple answer is, nothing. Just try and open your self up so that your energies can align with the energies of that particular spot.

After a few minutes spent in our respective spots we moved on, again following the rods. Now normally, we would arrive at a place where there was something to do. However as the rods twirled for both Gwas and I again, at roughly the same points we felt that we were at another cleansing point. Odd, but not unheard off. After a few minutes in this new place, Gwas remarked that it had a elemental twinge to it. I felt about a bit and concurred. It felt like Fire. Did the first place have an elemental feel? Thinking back to it, if it did, it would have been Earth. Given the four elemental nature of things I wondered whether there would be an elemental feel to the next place? Yes. It was Water and the final preparation place had a distinct feel of Air.
Having traversed a good 30 minutes or so around the forest, we definitely felt we had prepared enough! Perhaps the rods got a sense of this because they now took us on a long hike towards the Edge.
The Goddess Returns
So we had arrived at a place where something could be learned or discovered. I stood looking out on the plains of Cheshire when a soft voice entered my mind. It was Caileach. I sighed! There was a hint of anger and, to be honest, a bit of regret too. I missed that trusted relationship we had.
“When have I ever asked you to trust me?”
What? What do you mean I berated, irritably. My thoughts flashed through my memory of my encounters with her, ready to cite a litany of trusted communes. But there wasn’t any. I couldn’t recall a single instance where she had offered a level of trust.
“You have confused me with other beings”
I got the distinct sense that she was sniffing her nose at, Ancient Yew and Oak. There was a sudden cawing of crows all around me. She was showing off again, I was certain.
You wanted to bind that ice-dragon to me, I said, in an accusatory tone.
“Bound is stronger than Bond” she said, “And Not Going was better than Bond”
I could tell that she was not amused (pardon the pun) but then neither was I. So what now, where did we stand? What happened to the trust – scratch that – relationship.
“Nothing has changed,” She responded, “Now that you have come off your emotional high horse, things can move forward”
Humph was my response.
“You need to connect with your energy double should you want to survive an encounter with the dragon.”
Do you have any preparatory advice?
“Yes,” She said and went on to tell me what I needed to do. Which I’ll leave for the next post. I got one parting shot from Caileach before the days drama was concluded…
“What did you do with my staff?”
And she was gone? Staff? What staff? Then I recalled. A few months ago Gwas and I had been on an impromptu outing and I had been taken to a place where I had to wrestle a staff from a shade. The occasion had been memorable because in battling with the shade I had been thrown on my rump. But apart from that, the memory had been lost until this reminder. What indeed had happened to that staff?
