Direction from the River Dee 2014

Needs must when you realise that you’ve forgotten something important and you’re not in the ‘right place’. Through a series of unfortunate events I had come to realise that I was not on “the path” – I wasn’t following my correct course of action in accordance with my spiritual direction. I knew this because I had succumbed to a cold that my wife had been sporting for a few weeks. As she got better I caught the offending cold. Now usually I simply breeze past such things with nary a glance, but this one had my full attention. It was all so unnecessary and I didn’t even feel like I had a proper illness – it was merely a ‘reminder’ that I was off course.

Several other happenings substantiated this condition of malaise, of dis-jointedness. They all culminated in my being offered an interview for a job. I have recently gone independent. I wasn’t really wanting to be put straight back where I had just escaped from, but this job was a shoe-in – a complete match for what I had been doing, and with the added attraction of working for a small company in the local area. Dammit – when temptation comes it comes in the form you most admire! I needed help to make a decision – back to where I was or continue on my new course?

In addition I had forgotten to ask for what my quest was for the time between Samhain and Winter Solstice! How could that have happened? Well, because I was seriously “off course”, that’s why! I needed to get back on, and quickly! Hence, with the restrictions I had on time and distance I opted for the nearest large water course – the River Dee. For some reason I felt I needed water. Water would help me decide.

The Cold Harsh Reality

River Dee - Nov 14 (1) (Medium)
The River Dee on a cold day

With some to-ing and fro-ing in Kal’s car we made it to the bank of the River Dee. At this point the river has been cultivated to run straight. The area is called Deeside, and soon the river runs out into the estuary to mingle with The Irish Sea. It felt industrial and unwelcoming, yet there was a certain power emitted from the expanse of water which made me sure it could help me. I considered my questions and prepared for my encounter with the spirit of the River Dee.

I spent a moment huddled into my coat while Kal tried to keep himself warm in the biting wind. The elements don’t bother me – I can merge consciousness in any condition and so within a minute I felt myself drift into a meditative state, and was able to reach out to the water with different attention.

“What should I do about my new business?” I asked.

A duck took flight from off from water. Its feet peddled furiously to propel it along the surface, the water tension threatening to break at any moment if the momentum was lost for a second. A moment later the legs relaxed as the wings gathered enough wind beneath them to lift the duck into the air and it began to flow through the air with relative ease. I understood.

“Will I be able to survive on the income from the new business?”, I asked.

There was a dark stirring in the middle of the river. A seal popped up, just keeping its head above water. I understood.

“But will the new business ever be really successful? ” I asked.

At that moment there was a thunderous roar. A Jet fighter plane from some nearby airbase lifted up close the river, banked and then roared off into the distance. I understood.

The Next Quest

I had one last question before I froze to death. What would my quest be for the next six weeks? The answer came back clear and unequivocal – to continue to go deeper into the energy healing, as I was already doing for a sick friend. It is a strong ‘branch’ of the tree of knowledge that I am growing for myself. The fruit of this tree will benefit everyone I come into contact with, but I need to nurture the growth and ensure that the limbs are strong and dependable.

I thanked the river spirit for its clear and unequivocal guidance. The answers were as straight as the channel through which it flowed at this point. For that I was both surprised and thankful. My course was also clear and true.

A week later I turned up at the interview, but informed the company that I did not wish to waste their time – this job wasn’t right for me after all, despite how well matched we seemed. They were surprised that I had gone to the trouble of turning up all suited and booted, but in my way of thinking I needed to feel the decision being taken in situ. I don’t do things at a distance. Such a decision is more powerful for both parties when it’s done face to face. I left the ‘interview’ beaming a smile. I had made the right choice and now I can never go back.

Oops….forgot to write part of it down….guess I need to get back onto my own Spiritual path!

I’m not surprised that the Water is what drew you for an answer. When I did some meditation about the element of Water this is what I was told:
“Water washes over me, clears my aura and washes away all I have released,
Water holds the memories of the Universe,
    Drink always from the Fountain,
    Embrace the Wisdom within,
    Listen quietly in the Stillness,
    The path becomes clear.”
