In early September 2026 I heard from my Druid friend Briar that a friend of hers had experienced a regular bout of unexplained activity in her house. The activity mainly centred around a rattling of her front door, but also extended to a bit of object movement too. I was intrigued, and asked Briar if we could take a look at it.
Briar seemed to think there was a connection between an old sluice channel that used to go from the nearby church down towards the row of houses that contained the one affected. I was grateful for her local knowledge. We agreed to take a look at the issue remotely first, me by dowsing, she by visiting the house physically.
One evening I got up a picture of the house on Google Maps and did a street view to look at the aerial view so that I could hold a good mental picture of the house and gardens. I opened my house dowsing checklist and began to work through it. Here’s what I found:-
- On a strength of 1 to 10 the issue is currently 7. That needed sorting out within a month before it became an issue for the residents.
- The source is some latent death energy (unspecified). It may be a human internment or ashes buried in the back garden. That is what is drawing down energy to it from somewhere further up the hill, the direction of the church above.
- The negative energy of that flow dowses as a combination of NEUTRAL (the transporting energy) and FEMALE.
- The line comes into the house and then pools in a room upstairs.
- The resolution will involve two elements: angelic assistance and white light energy.
- The fix will take a few minutes to achieve and then won’t return.
Briar’s visit allowed her to feel the following aspects:-
- She felt the imbalance was primarily caused by something spiritual.
- She felt a rushing sensation when she thought of this, like something was coming down the hill from behind the house
- The rushing felt like a landslide of energy!
- The sensation rushed through her head to her heart chakra, only to cease at the solar plexus chakra.
Between us then we had the basis for us to begin to investigate and resolve the problem. There was something coming down the hill to the house and it would need some spiritual or angelic assistance to resolve the problem.
After one of our Cherwell Druid group meetings (more about those soon) we got together to go visit the village where this issue was occurring – the village of Warmington in Oxfordshire. As we chatted I discussed the “angelic” aspect of the resolution. It was my contention that I would need to invoke Archangel Michael to deal with the negative energy. Briar raised her eyebrows, but due to her many years of druidry experience that didn’t phase her. I’m sure she’d encountered many more oddball theories than that amongst the druid fraternity.
We decided to drive up the hill to find the source of the issue and to park at the church, which was situated at the top of the steep hill leading out of the village. Briar has a feeling the church was involved somehow.
We parked in a little layby. As I stepped out of the car the church’s welcome sign made me stop and stare – it was St Michael‘s of Warmington! I knew instantly that this was a helpful designation for our work. I got out my dowsing rods and began to work.

I asked to reconnect with Michael and was taken to a door which was the closest point to the ideal spot inside the church. That was inaccessible due to the church being locked. So, I reconnected, then asked to be taken to the source of the problem. I was taken on a circuitous route around the churchyard, during which time I collected four separate pigeon feathers. Meanwhile Briar was wandering around the churchyard looking intent, and had wandered down the churchyard out of view.

As I followed an energetic path I found myself close to where Briar had stopped. I passed close by her and the dowsing rods closed in answer to my question of finding the source. I was beneath a tall fir tree. Beneath the tree were some half-buried stones which had the appearance of small headstones. They looked neglected and forgotten about. Were there actual burials in this overgrown outlying section of the graveyard?
I knew this was the place to work from, and Briar suggested I do the work alone, whilst she watched and assisted energetically. I began by planting the four feathers at the cardinal points, then found the last remaining yew berry on a nearby yew tree, which I placed at the centre. Yew. Tree of death and rebirth. This was highly appropriate, I felt. Essential even.
As I worked Briar told me that locals had seen a monk figure around the troubled house area, and were calling it The Black Monk. This fitted with the female and neutral dark energy I had found. The locals had intuitively recognised the source – that it was in the churchyard, and that the energy was black and created a thoughtform based on those two characteristics. Although, why female? How did that relate to the monk? I didn’t know.
There is some historical context for the Black Monks in the area. Benedictine monks had a priory in the village many years ago which was uncovered in the excavations for houses built in the village in the 1950s. Hmmm… disturbance of this kind always seems to produce some energetic response.
I settled into the connection, but felt I was in the wrong place. I shouldn’t be working IN the source power centre, but instead I should move out of the cover and shade of the trees into the sunshine which had just broken out of the clouds to blaze a warmth to the day. I stepped onto the path and got ready, my eyes filled with the white light of the sun.

I called on Archangel Michael to come and assist with this work. It didn’t take long before I felt a gathering, and then a travelling of white light energy. It began in the affected house below us, and moved swiftly up a channel from the house, up the hill, and into the power centre I was standing near to beneath the pine.
The work was done. The Black Monk was dealt with. At the exact moment that I felt this, the sun went back behind the clouds and the air cooled back to how it had been for most of the day. I felt vaguely satisfied. I gave thanks to Michael for his assistance in this work and closed down the power centre I had established earlier. I wondered whether there would be any more sightings of The Black Monk in the village?
I hope I get to work with Briar again. She has a lot of intuitive and local knowledge which proved very helpful in this case. We met a week later and I heard that the inhabitant had been surprised that her “House ghost” had been very quiet over the last week. Long may that continue.

Fascinating! Led me down a rabbit hole of investigation, which you may probably know about:
So the name Warmington as it relates to this Warwickshire village derives from the Old English personal name Wærma plus -ing- (belonging to) and tūn (farmstead, estate, or settlement).
It was originally recorded in Old English as Wœrmundingtūn, meaning “the settlement of Woermund’s people”. Woermund was from the Mercian royal family, and is an ancient Germanic and Anglo-Saxon personal name that means “protective hand” or “guardian warrior”.
Interesting that the church overlooks the village and is named after the Archangel Michael, and you were guided to call upon his talents as a guardian warrior!
There seems to have been a settlement there for a very long time, and ring ditches have been uncovered around the area, including ancient burial grounds.
A lot of ancient energies that probably resent the intrusion of modern disruption with buildings, roads, and the forgetfulness of today’s society!
