Summer 2015 – P7 – The Light of Brighid

In the last of my Summer Solstice posts (can you believe we’ve generated so much from one weekend?) we are taken on an escorted tour of a sacred site. We have left David at Fourknocks, but Regina has stayed with us to show us one more site: The Shrine of Brigid at Faughart.

We arrived at the shrine site and parked alongside a bus and another car. Throughout the period we visited the car park would get busier, and the site more populous. Regina mentioned that most of the visitors were from the traveller community. The site was quite unusual – a mixture of ancient stones with healing properties and a clutter of modern …. stuff… that seemed to be aimed at… er, informing the visitor and guiding them on their sacred journey in praise of this popular saint. We ignored all that and instead began to dowse for the most energetic locations.

Shrine to Brigid or cricket pavilion?

The casual visitor, or veen the dedicated one, would be led from the bottom to the top via a numbered procession of artefacts and sacred spots. The idea seemed to be that they would perform devotions  and request healing specific to their ailment from certain locations. Regina asked if we could like to travel from bottom to top or top to bottom (in number sequence). We suggested that we would actually ignore all that, and we wandered off using the dowsing rods to suggest our route.

Meadowsweet, Larks and Loughcrew – Summer 2015 – P1

Ancestors, Circles and Stones, Dolmens and Chambers, Ghosts and shades, Hills and Mounds, Wheel of the Year

In the first of my seven Summer Solstice stories I will tell you about how I encountered an ancestral spirit who would work with my Spirit Self to bring about a culmination of my ancestral work on this weekend’s journeying. This was only realised through the two days work, so the stories piece into each other like fragments of a mirror revealing a full picture towards the end.

In order to pull all the stories together I have used the tag Ireland solstice 2015.

Sunset to Sunrise

I was asleep at sunset and then awake again at sunrise. Seems like a long time, but actually it was only a few hours. On arrival, tired by excited, we zoomed off in the hire car heading for the first destination. It was a place I had heard of by reputation, but we hadn’t visited it yet – Loughcrew. We know nothing about it.

The car park has space for a few coaches and about 20 cars. This was clearly an important site, and we weren’t used to such “hospitality”. I noticed a memorial to a guy called “Mick Tobin“. The dowsing rods said that paying our respects was a useful starting point for the day’s work, so we acknowledged the gentleman – this “Child of the Solstice” as he was poetically named. It seemed fitting to our Solstice outing!

I walked up the steps a few minutes after Kal. At the top of the steps, before the path went into the foot of the hill, there was an interesting triangle of green grass and young trees that caught my eye and made me stop. It was a place of preparation. I dowsed to the correct spot, and got energetically cleansed and prepared. Cailleach appeared offering me the protection of her Black Dragon once again (see previous Ireland visit). I gratefully accepted this, and as the dragon’s wings enfolded me I felt a surge of power, and felt that wave burst out like a blast across the countryside around, sending a warning message to all the potentially mischievous spirits. “Be warned” – it signalled – “this one’s with The Dark Lady!”

I drew in the powers of the four elements from their respective cardinal points, and with that felt that I had offered something in return to Cailleach for my protection – the energy formed by the union of the elements that is the singularity of my self.

Kal was waiting by the gate with a grin on his face as he watched me. What, I asked? “A place of preparation?” he inquired? I nodded. “That was the same spot as I was used.” We laughed. Such synchronicities already! What next?

Saving Annabel

Posted on March 3, 2014March 3, 2014 By Gwas 2 Comments on Saving Annabel
Angels, Dowsing, Energy cleansing, House Energies book

I never quite know how these things come about, but a friend of a friend of a friend of Kal’s mentioned something about their house being haunted, and next thing you know Kal’s inviting me to call them to arrange a visit.

Now I like to be prepared. Hence, there were introductory phone calls, confirmation calls, and a rough background on the likely encounter was established. Then I set about dowsing what I could about the situation. For example: How bad was it? Was it urgent? Was I about to face a wave of mutilation? I mentioned the ‘job’ to my wife, M, and she said simply “Annabel.” OK – I would keep that information in my pocket and see if it was relevant.

Pure Preparations

Over the next few days I consulted with my spirit guide to see whether I could obtain any guidance about what I might need for the work. Having been working without tools all year I was prepared for the answer, and sure enough it came back as expected: no tools were needed for this work. So, I asked if I needed any spiritual assistance. That answer was more helpful – the image of a glowing Archangel Michael kept appearing. Now, I don’t do angel cards, I don’t have angel images around the house, and I don’t go round telling people about angels. However, their interventions and appearances since visiting Iona last Autumn Equinox have been rather exciting and incredibly helpful.

I decided that although I wouldn’t use them I would still take my “sword and shield” crystal and stone. They would act as a reminder in case I needed urgent assistance. I kind of associated Michael with the Sword and Shield symbols anyway. I felt calmed and reassured by the idea that I could call upon a force that I knew to be so energetically powerful. Michael would be my trump card.

I visited a local coffee shop to wait for Kal to join me. Normally I would order a coffee, but for some reason the idea repulsed me! Instead my attention was drawn to the soft drinks area. I picked up a fruit juice, but again the feeling of repulsion kicked in. I put it back down, moving my hand towards something which didn’t have this repulsive feel. Only a bottle of pure water seemed acceptable. I sat in the coffee house with my single bottle of water feeling a little put out. I really did like my coffee, and all I could smell was coffee! I sipped my water and waited. Strange. A sort of purification, I mused.

The Fun Begins

We pulled up at a typical suburban semi-detached house which was already decorated for the up-coming Christmas festivities. It was an inviting house and a modern couple – Jenna and Harry – greeted us, telling su that they had sent the kids away for the evening to be looked after.

We sit and chat with the householders – a lovely couple. Kal decides to play sidekick letting me lead the discussions and intervening to add another perspective. We get the background.

A girl, dressed in a nightgown, long hair, face never seen, both parents have witnessed her separately. The husband has seen her in the upstairs toilet room. The wife felt her get out of her bed and then saw her walking on the landing heading to the toilet room. Both appearances were between 2am and 4am.

The couple insists that despite the time of day they were fully aware and awake at the time of the events they witnessed.

Summary 2013 – Lessons Learned Pt1

Posted on December 30, 2013 By Gwas No Comments on Summary 2013 – Lessons Learned Pt1
Hedge Druidry, Hedge philosophy

In the second of my year-end summary posts I am listing the most important things I have learned this year. I’ve arranged them in chronological order by month as this seems to show the development of the learning in the best way. There’s too much to read in one go, so I’ve split this into two posts. Part 1 is January to June/July. Part 2 will be the back half of the year.

One of my favourite phrases is “Every day is a school day.” It certainly feels like that walking this path of druidry and divination!

January

Spooky!

  • Learned that some pet energies can be grounded through respectful burial involving knowledge of their energetic links to humans (e.g. an owner)
  • Also found a spirit that is classically called an Incubus preying upon the vibrant energies of the three teenage girls in the house. Discovered that they can be ‘ensnared’ using a spiral-carved stone to confuse their pathway, and by changing the energy flows around the house to disrupt its patterns and portals.

Tarot Framework

  • Created a four-stage cross tarot layout coinciding with the Celtic festival dates, and drew from the Camelot Oracle to define the path, the champion and the challenges at those special dates. The result was a fantastic way to keep me on track with my progress!

Lammas Part 2 Secret Gardens

Posted on August 31, 2013August 30, 2013 By kal No Comments on Lammas Part 2 Secret Gardens
Healing, Other Entities, Pilgrimage, Ritual, Spirit rescue, Visions

The thing about a sacred life is that many of the experiences are emotionally touching. Often however they give rise to intellectual challenges too. The experience below is one that did both. It began with Gwas’s map. We had arrived at some beach (can’t tell you were, it’s a secret). I followed Gwas along the shore … Read More “Lammas Part 2 Secret Gardens” »

Lammas 2013 – Lligwy Lore and Song

Posted on August 30, 2013August 28, 2013 By Gwas No Comments on Lammas 2013 – Lligwy Lore and Song
Hedge Druidry, Herbalism

As a form of postscript to the Lunasa day that we spent on Anglesey we had moved further around the island from where I had met with Gywn Ap Nudd. Now we were on the eastern side of the island near to the town of Moelfre. In a way I had achieved everything that I had set out to do this day, but Anglesey is constantly surprising. One new surprise was in store, and a reminder of the power of sound was to follow.

These Island’s Traditions

We had been to the area around Lligwy before. Lligwy Chamber was our intended destination, but for some reason we had ended up coming at the site from the opposite direction than usual. Call it luck, or some other coincidence. I pulled over into the parking area designated for the Din Lligwy ancient village. I had seen the signs many times but for some reason it had never felt like somewhere I should visit. Today was totally different. The steering wheel practically pulled itself to steer me into a parking spot. OK – clearly I was intended to be here today! But why?

The information sign revealed little about the structures to come. Following the rare signposts across several fields we eventually located the settlement through a process of following grass trails and a mild amount of dowsing. Other visitors were not as fortunate and were traipsing back and forth trying to find the hidden village. Once you locate the iron gate on the corner of the wood at the edge of one field you will then be led up to the ancient village above.

Din Lligwy - Anglesey - Lammas 2013 (9) (Large)

So, how “ancient” is ancient? The Wikipedia entry for Din Lligwy dates the archeological finds to the 3rd or 4th Centuries, but the presumption is that it was in occupation much before that. A “small farming community” in the Iron Age is the supposition, then a smelting workshop during Roman times. I think it had a particular inhabitant who went on to have an impact in this area, and now I’ll tell you the story of why I think that.

Solstice 2013 – Shady business at Arthurs Inn

Posted on August 1, 2013 By Gwas No Comments on Solstice 2013 – Shady business at Arthurs Inn
Dowsing, Energy cleansing, Ghosts and shades, Wheel of the Year

We’re almost at Lammas and I’m just concluding our Summer Solstice story – an indication of how fun-packed that weekend in Cornwall was.

I have to start this post by introducing a caveat. What I am about to relate does not in any way reflect on the place we were staying, or the people who work there. King Arthur’s Inn at Tintagel is a wonderful place to stay, does nice food and drink, and the staff are nothing but helpful and welcoming. With that said, there is nothing they could have done to prevent what was going to happen to me on my return to the Inn after an evening’s adventures in the Tintagel caves.

I was feeling good about the energy work that I had done in Merlin’s Cave – the wren incident, remembering to remember Zoe’s greeting, obtaining a new white quartz rock for my garden, and generally having made the effort to do the journey down and back up that incredibly steep road in the depths of the evening gloom. All felt good.

When I got back to the inn Kal was still up but tired, and I was ready for turning in too, so I went to my room leaving Kal to sleep in the main room. I thought about reading for a while but was too tired. The sea air and the walk, the days of driving, the prospect of six hours driving the next day… all conspired to make me go to sleep almost immediately. But I had forgotten one vital ingredient!
