Lammas 2015 P6 Light In The Darkness

We wandered along the darkening roads around the floor off the valley. Bats swooped at us, as though sensing our excitement and wanting to join us. The steady trickle of the Kilmartin Burn accompanied us as the scoured the dark profile of the hills behind us looking for the full moon.

We diverted ourselves with an encounter at a ruined chamber which I will recount later. Then we returned down the parallel road which would take us to Temple Wood Circle. The full moon appeared above the hills just as we could see the stone circle as we approached it. Timing. We noted that the circle was also known as “Moon Temple“. This was a Blue Moon tonight. What a lovely coincidence!

As I walked around the periphery of the stone circle’s rock-laden mound, I felt there was no need to approach the centre this time. The work was to be done outside initially in the small grove of birch trees nearby, I felt. I sat in the moonlight, and waited for inspiration as I connected to the Spirit of Place.

Solar Eclipse on the Eve of Spring 2015

Posted on March 20, 2015 By kal No Comments on Solar Eclipse on the Eve of Spring 2015
Celestial, Other reports, Quickie

Just a quickie. I am writing this quite literally whilst the solar eclipse is happening. Of course you’re thinking, “why aren’t you out at some sacred place?” to which my response is…my rooms are a sacred place. Before the eclipse I had pre-asked the rods whether I could gain full advantage of it whilst at … Read More “Solar Eclipse on the Eve of Spring 2015” »

Arrows point to Arthur – Solstice 3

If I had researched the geographical locations of the sites we were intending to visit I would have placed this one last.As it happens it was positioned in the middle of the day, but as you may have come to expect – it turns out we visited the site at exactly the right time. Here’s why.

The Devil Points North

There are three remaining tall standing stones close to the A1(M) road that passes by the town of Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire. Collectively they are known as The Devil’s Arrows. There is the usual story about their placement – the devil threw down the ‘arrows’:

“The name stems from a legend traced back to 1721, where the Devil was supposed to have thrown the stones, aiming at the next town of Aldborough. He stood on Howe Hill and shouted,

Borobrigg keep out o’ way,

For Aldborough town

I will ding down!

But obviously his aim was not that good, and so they landed short of their mark.”

Ooh – that angry old Devil! When will he learn that his aim is never that good when he’s hewing these menhirs around? Silly billy. Anyway – there they stand, up to 30 feet tall and in a not-so-straight alignment, said by Paul Devereux to link the southern-most moon setting with an ancient fording point across the nearby River Ure. There is an assumption that they formed a part of a larger complex that includes the three Thornborough Henges.

Depth in the Depths of Coom Wedge Tomb – p3 Solstice 2014

With some astute navigation we had arrived at the final sacred site of our first afternoon/evening in Ireland. We had visited a couple of sites so far and the experiences at each had been overwhelmingly fabulous. I was eager to see what could be learned here. As is usual I asked whether there was anything … Read More “Depth in the Depths of Coom Wedge Tomb – p3 Solstice 2014” »

Of Dragons and Doubles – Spring Equinox 2014 – Genesis

Celestial, Dragons, Pilgrimage, Quests

It was the Spring Equinox of 2014 and we were on our way to Cumbria. Well, we had a plan B which was that if the weather was really bad, we would continue driving to Scotland (another 3 hours drive) and to Rosslyn Chapel. As it happens, that wasn’t the case. I had a dual … Read More “Of Dragons and Doubles – Spring Equinox 2014 – Genesis” »

Cornwall Winter 9 – Star Alignments of Lesquite Quoit

Posted on January 28, 2014January 28, 2014 By Gwas No Comments on Cornwall Winter 9 – Star Alignments of Lesquite Quoit
Ancient Sites, Celestial, Dowsing, Theory

This is the penultimate Cornish post for this Winter. Well done if you’ve made it through them so far. Has it made you want to go to Cornwall this summer? Has it become like a series of Tourist Board adverts? I have some new findings to discuss in this post. I would find out more about the types of subtle energy at sacred sites, and then find an interesting link with the stars.

The Tilted Quoit

My visit was to Lesquite Quoit (also known as Lanivet Quoit or Trebyan Quoit), a dolmen near to the village of Sweetshouse in Cornwall. It can be reached by venturing down some tiny roads westward off the B3268 south from Lanhydrock House. Head towards Lanlivet until you reach an electricity sub-station, where you can park off the road (however, it does attract the attention of the local farmer, who I am sure would have quizzed me had I not been leaving when he drove past).

It appears to be in a state of disrepair. The capstone seems to have slipped. Maybe a supporting stone got removed?

Lesquite Quoit - Cornwall (2)

I dowsed the site thoroughly despite the cold. I was curious to find that there was male energy when I asked to find some. At this time of the year the male energy was usually not in existence. This paradox made me think deeper – was I actually asking for the right “kind” of male energy? Maybe I needed to differentiate between earth energy and celestial energy? I began to dowse again with that differentiating factor built into the questioning.

  1. Was there male EARTH energy at this site? NO.
  2. Was there male CELESTIAL energy at this site? YES.
  3. What is the source of the celestial energy? SUN and STARS for the male energy, MOON for the female.

So, it seemed that there were four possible energy forms at the dolmen. Now I knew that I needed to dowse for all four possible types of energy form – EARTH MALE, EARTH FEMALE, CELESTIAL MALE and CELESTIAL FEMALE. What would I find?

Winter Solstice 2013 – The secret of constellation alignment

Posted on January 10, 2014January 8, 2014 By Gwas 6 Comments on Winter Solstice 2013 – The secret of constellation alignment
Ancient Sites, Celestial, Magick

In the final part of my Winter Solstice story for 2013 I talk about one of my favourite places – Dinas Bran. It’s one of the most beautiful, impressive, magickal and mythical places in my area. Having spent time getting to know its spirit of place – the mighty Bran the Blessed – it has provided consistently astonishing results through acts of communing.

On this day, having visited Holywell, this was the destination that Kal was driven (literally) to visit next. Our adventures at Vale Crucis and Eliseg’s Pillar would come afterwards. While the sun still slanted shadows across the land we climbed the impressive hill to reach the remains of the fort on top.

Dinas Bran - Winter Solstice 2013 (2)

The day was beautiful and clear. Surprisingly, there weren’t many people on the hill today! It was a perfect day for photographs, but we were here for other purposes. Kal was on a mission, and I had a burning question:

Why were some sacred sites and standing stones aligned to stars?

I was hoping that Bran might be able to answer that for me.
