“Time is an illusion, lunch time doubly so” is a famous quote from the Hitch-Hikers Guide (needs no further introduction). Over the last few months Chris and I have often delved into the notion of time. With my sciency background and mind chock full of sci-fi books, films and TV I am not averse to considering temporal phenomena as it relates to sacred experiences. However I have to confess that it was Chris that came up with this idea during one of our long car journeys.

Back Story: Many years ago I made a mistake. A big one, I means a really big one. I was living in the south-west of the country at the time in a town called Barnstaple. In that worthy village, I found a church that was filled to the brim with shades. I was truly surprised at the number of them. Being recently gifted the name Spirit Walker I decided in my magnificence to remove the shades from the church yard and take them to some place more fitting.

A late night and a ceremony later and all the shades were captured within the confines of a crystal. As it happened a few short months later I found myself at wood henge. Which I thought would be an excellent place to let these shades go. Boy was that a mistake. Almost as soon as I let them go, they scooted off down the power (ley/death/pilgrim) lines that converge at WoodHenge. It was a mistake that I could no recover from. How could I? Having said that and given that it is such an awe-inspiring foobar I often wonder why I am not overly concerned with having this tarnish on my personal history.

Chris and I were discussing temporal mechanics and energy (of the subtle kind). It was one of them chicken and egg situations and I can’t honestly recall the genesis of the topic however one curious theory emerged. Is it possible to rectify a past energetic mistake in the present? With this came to mind the WoodHenge Shade Affair. Could that monumental fiasco be repaired. We talked around the subject but that’s all it was, talk.

Belas Knap, Chakras and The Merlin Staff

On a particularly sunny day Kal and I planned to venture forth into the world in search of adventure. We had a plan, of course. A rough plan. I wanted to go to Belas Knap long barrow, which I first and last visited in the autumn of 2013. I had been thinking about how I could achieve my quest: to find the essence of The Merlin Staff – an oak staff in preparation, but yet to be created. The ‘thinking’ involved letting myself be guided to the image of Belas Knap. On rational reflection it seemed to have all the right ingredients: I had met with Merlin there, brandishing a staff and inviting me to call down lightning.

This was Kal’s first visit, yet for both of us we were not allowed immediate entry to the site. Both of us had to go through an extensive cleansing process by waiting at various power spots until our energies were sufficiently re-attuned. I had to sit on the mossy tree seat which is conveniently located in a shaded area next to the site before I was allowed to proceed.

Another regular feature of our site visits is the entry point. Finding the correct entrance is crucial to a positive experience. It’s not advisable just to assume that the people who administer the site know the “right” entrance. This is specially true if you intend to work with the site on any energetic level. The best experiences are those where the site’s energy is respected as part of your work.

Using dowsing rods I was taken to a part of the stone wall almost directly in front of the “false entrance”. The exact spot was kindly pointed out by two strands of tall grass which showed me exactly where I should climb over. If there had been anyone else there it would have looked odd when there was a perfectly serviceable entrance only twenty feet away!

Did Belas Knap change to accommodate my current quest, or was I directed to come to the perfect place to be in order to get my questions answered? I don’t know, but when I began to ask if I could get answers related to the essence of the Merlin Staff then I was taken on a sinewy path to the back of the mound. There I sat out of the wind in a little oasis of calm with warm sunshine on me. Soon my question became interactive as I began to reveal the way the site was laid out and how that related to my own energy body.

Immortality and Mad Jacks Tomb

I often feel that people put too much emphasis on ley lines. These invisible subtle energy pathways seem to hold an endless fascination with some people. For me, the more interesting energies are their constituent energies – the male and female earth and celestial energies that ley lines transport from point to point in the landscape.

Nevertheless, on a sunny Spring evening, just as the sun was beginning to set, I found myself at one of Sussex’s most odd structures called Mad Jack Fuller’s Tomb – an over-sized pyramid tomb in the very small village of Brightling. I was therefore quite surprised to discover that the most interesting thing about this structure was its ley line connection, and how that connected with the idea of immortality.

The tomb is in the grounds of a beautiful church building – again slightly larger than one would expect for a tiny village. Squire Fuller seems to have invested quite a bit of money in this area!

Feeding a ley line

I began my dowsing work. I had very soon identified four strong spots where earth energy was rising to the surface of the earth in a strong vortex. There were two male energy spots and two female ones. They seemed to be balanced and positioned on either side of the tomb.

When I traced the flow of these energies they were being drawn from the central vortex where they emerged and then were being attracted into the side of the pyramid. The pyramid shape was key to this. It’s flat sides meant that it was perfectly aligned with a ley line. It was sitting right in the middle of the line. The point on the top was acting as a focal point for the celestial energies coming in from the top. The pyramid was therefore a balance of earthly and celestial forms of energy which were being directed into the stone structure. But why?
