Firstly, announcing the beginning of a book about Energies in the Home by yours truly Kal Malik – you heard it on this very post first. I’m looking forward to it already.
That positive intent set. As you know (see this blog) I’ve been doing the odd house energy dowse and healing over the last couple of years. During that time I have been building up some information that seems to be generally applicable (at the very least it gives us ideas of things to do or try or gives our intuition a kick).
I won’t go over a lot of that here , but I just wanted to mention it because in the following tale one might ask, “How did he know that?” to which the answer is…I’ve been here before.
Introduction

It was sitting next to a curious person at a local cafe that got the interest of a couple who through conversation learned that I was a dowser and in particular a house dowser. They had bought a house a couple of years ago and although initially they had liked it over the past year or so they felt different about it and wondered whether they had made the right decision in buying it.
In our conversation over coffee they asked me whether this could be something to do with the energies of the home? I said it was possible and that they only way to be sure was to dowse it. We arranged a date to do this and here is the incident report.
Note: This was going to be an interesting dowse because I had no knowledge about the couple or the house. Excellent!
The Home described
The house was a typical terraced house, two up and two down with bathroom and kitchen. There was a door that led to a cellar (that wasn’t used) and a ceiling trap door that led to an attic (again not used). There was a large garden to the back and tiny one to the front.
I don’t think the layout of the house is important but here is a verbal description. You walk in through the front door along a corridor which has a separating door in the middle of it. At the end of the corridor is a door in front of you to the main living room and one to the left which leads to the front room.
Going into the living room and right opposite the entrance is the door to the kitchen. The kitchen then has a storage room at the back of it and a door to the left of the entrance which leads into the back yard.
On the same wall as the entrance into the living room is a door on the far side which goes up stairs to a front bedroom, a back bedroom and a bathroom above the kitchen.
The Kit
I shouldn’t really, because I feel that a home would provide all the necessary things to alter the energies if needed. But, I took along my stock of crystals and incense.
In honesty I was feeling a bit like one of those people who did all the chanting in homes, By the tail feathers of the Quezacotl hope I don’t end up in that category! Anyway what of the dowsing?
Getting my bearings
I always like to start at the front door as a generic starting point. so the first questions were.
- Are there any energy centres in this house? Yes.
- Are there any positive energy centres? Yes.
- Any negative ones? Yes

Note here that I am asking for energy that is detrimental to the occupiers and energy that has a positive effect on them. Not for male/female/neutral/primal energies (see a bit later).
Ok, So I asked how many and got 2 positive and 3 negative. Any neutral? No. I’ve never had any neutral (i.e. non affecting power centres in a home. Again I’m not talking of neutral energy type) power centres.
I found a positive power centre just by a couch (but in a corner) in the living room and one in the unused front bedroom (odd that). I continued my exploration and found a negative energy centre in the kitchen, the unused front room and alarmingly one in the back main bedroom (the one the couple slept in).
Bit of a definition, power centre: a place where energy flows out of or flows into or is a pool of energy.
I measured the scale of energy on my own 1 – 10 scale, here is the result:
| power centre | energy |
| living room | +4 |
| front unused bedroom | +8 |
| kitchen | -3 |
| unused front room | -5 |
| main bed room | -7 |
Ok that gave me the energy points, I now wanted to see whither and where it flowed. So I traced out a few energy lines. I won’t detail them all mainly because I don’t know what they mean, as yet.
- Are energy lines attracted to something and to what?
- Why do energy centres have and have not lines?
- Why do some have more than others?
Interesting why questions, for another time. However there were several energy flows that went through the rooms and up and down stairs.
In particular:
- A (female+neutral mix) flow went from the unused bedroom power centre down the stairs and into the kitchen to a plant that was situated there.
- One went from the unused front room to the main bedroom power centre.
Note: I have found that house energy streams seem to differ in their composition than those we call earth energies at sacred sites. House energy streams seem to be composed of mixed neutral and male or mixed neutral and female. This area definitely needs more investigation.
Now then I had got an idea of the energies, I asked whether the overall effect of these was beneficial to the household? No. On a scale of 1 – 10 how bad was it overall? 6. This is pretty bad, consider that 7 means “Do something about this right now!”
I asked whether this negative imbalance was the cause of the feeling that the owners where having and again I got an answer of, Yes. I asked whether the house energies where like this when the couple had moved in? No. Had they changed because the couple had move in? I got a half/half for this, which meant that something from the equation was missing.
I took an intuitive jump and asked if there was a reason for why these energies had changed and could I be taken to it?
Note: Now then I have found that this is a good question to ask from past experience. As you know you can’t ask Why questions, but if you ask “Can I be shown something that might help me understand this better?” then (if yes) follow your rods and take a look.
I asked and followed…the rods took me right up to and swirled around where the lady of the house was sitting…ooops. Yes, you are asking the same question I am…Why?
Whilst I was wandering around the house dowsing and making notes the couple were sat in the living room watching TV, I didn’t want them influencing my thoughts as I dowsed so I’d asked them to just ignore my wanderings.
It was time to bring them into the loop. I didn’t want to tell them about negative energies and stuff like that – the placebo is a wonderful thing and so is the anti-placebo. So I asked them about what their history in the house was, where they lived most, which areas they liked and didn’t and so on, basically natter away.
Note: This is quite funny really because I could talk for England (and hope to do so at some stage of my life) so to have to just sit (or wander about the home in this case) and just listen, with the occasion, umm and ahh was very unusual for me. But again experience has taught me this lesson.
Here are some of the salient points.
- They had moved bedrooms about 6 months ago.
- They didn’t use the front room much and used it mostly to store junk (but had cleared (and cleaned) it up before I came round).
- As we entered the kitchen I casually remarked, “That’s a nice plant” pointing to the plant where the energy line had led. The lady said that in their old bedroom that plant had been by the bedside.
The occasional prod elicited more information, for example I asked whether there had been any furniture changes in the living room and the gent answered that there used to be a table by the couch in the corner of the room (interesting). Of course I knew that a energy flow ended there, but why? Because of a table?
I got an intuitive nudge then and I asked them whether any significant emotional events had occurred in there life over the last couple of years?
Note: Intuitive Nudge – I don’t know how to explain it. But when I’m dowsing houses I sometimes get a kick to ask a certain question or follow a particular tangent of enquiry. It surprises me because being a very logical person I can’t rationalise how I get to these leaps.
The lady looked at her husband, before answering that she had lost her mum some nine months ago. She’d been very close to her and had taken it very hard. I don’t know why I asked and at that moment I didn’t know whether it would be of any relevance. Also I felt a bit of an idiot to be asking really.
Anyway I got over my uncomfortableness and collected my thoughts. It seemed to me that there had been an energy shift in the house, caused by the movement of the couple from the front bedroom to the back. Which I suspect was caused by the ladies desire to have a change of environment after her mum passed.
I dowsed the former question and got a partial yes, I asked if there was more to the reason for the shift and I got a yes. Take me to something that would help me understand…I was taken to the cellar door. I asked to go down and did so, following the rods to the inside left wall where they swirled. I couldn’t see anything in the dark (there was no lighting). Fortunately because of the incense I had brought, I also had a lighter. Looking around with this (ouch) I found some water on the floor, further investigation led to a leaking pipe. I stopped and thought about this for a moment, hmmm I wonder…, I dowsed to find that this was also a cause for the change in energies.
I asked whether the -ve power centre in the room above (front room) had been caused by this leak? Partially (one rod turned).
I asked whether these two combined caused the energy shift? No, there was a third component. Again I followed the rods and they led me to the place by the couch (where the table used to be). Again, a table? What was going on?
Had these three combined had caused the shift in energies? Yes.
Realignment
Even before I asked, I knew the answer. “Would the use of crystals, incense and meditation realign the energies of this home?” No! My intuition was digging into me, so I asked “Does the house need to be put into its original state?” Yes.
My advice to the couple began with a simple request…Would it be possible for them to move back into the bedroom they originally occupied? I felt that this would make the major shift in energies. Whilst they were mulling over this suggestion (on impulse) I asked whether there had been anything on the table by the couch, my thoughts had leaned towards there being a plant there (plants are great energy sources and manipulators). The lady of the house said it had been a picture of her mum.
Wow! I have seen this kind of thing before, energy being manipulated and/or created by an image of a loved one.
I asked whether I could see it and she vanished up the stairs and brought it back down. I didn’t want to dowse it in front of them so I wandered into another room and confirmed my intuition. “It” had been the cause of the energy on the table. I asked the lady whether she had any more pictures of her mum and she brought out two more. Neither of these had any energy coming from them, even though one of them was taken at the same time as the one that was on the table.
So my second piece of advice was to replace the table and picture (if she felt comfortable with it) There were some tears at this suggestion I have to say.
Obviously the third piece of advice was to have the leak in the basement mended. From a purely practical position. But also from a energy position (also I recall from my Feng Shui training that leaks are a bad Sha)
To help facilitate the energy shift and creation of new energy springs I dowsed and determined that a return to there bedroom with a couple of plants also would get the energy up to a 9. I wanted a 10 but I couldn’t intuit what to do to get that.
Strangely or not I also dowsed that the Microwave in the kitchen needed to be moved to another position, don’t ask why, I don’t know. It just had to be.
With these four or five suggestions I left the house and promised to call back in a couple of weeks to see how the energies where and also to see if they had implemented my suggestions.
