Conversation with an exorcist

In a recent post on SEP fields and entities (link) I talked about bad energies in the home. I was writing that post in the Lincoln Center in New York (a rather nice place, which provides free Internet access, tables, sockets and a cafe). At the table next to me was a curious (in two ways) individual. The first was that he was curious about what I was writing. When I explained (rather reluctantly) what I was writing about h became highly interested. The second curio was that this individual turned out to be a Rabbi and an exorcist to boot. What a rare coincidence!

I spent an interesting few hours with this worthy comparing notes from energy learnings herein and my own experiences and investigations of the paranormal. I’ll call the gentleman Rab for want of a nom-du-plume. In my time I have talked with exorcist from the Islamic, Christian and (for want of a better term) New Age camps so it was interesting to compare and contrast these viewpoints.

In this post I wont go into the details of these other schools of thought, rather what I wanted to do was put Rab’s experiences in the light of Energy and the context of this blog.

Rab said that most (if not all) exorcisms that he was a part of (there are usually several people, referred to as Minyan, involved) are instances where a person is possessed not by an entity but by the spirit or soul of a person who has not journeyed to heaven or hell (Gehenna). From Rab’s perspective it (an exorcism) was about healing the possessed and helping the possessor journey on to where-ever it was destined to go.

An exorcism drove out the spirit by first creating a state in the possessed such that the possessing spirit would feel great discomfort. When in this state it was forced to communicate. At this point it was questioned as to what its purpose was, and because it was assumed to be a dead spirit. It was also questioned about its life. This questioning often resolved themselves into some un-finished task (sounds the same as the movies) or that it did not know that it was dead (I have always found that one a curious notion).

If possible the Rabbi’s would resolve the dilemma of the possessing soul and thus be able to release the possessed from its infliction. If this wasn’t the case then a higher power was invoked to command the spirit to leave.

All this was fascinating stuff, but what I wanted to know was whether Rab had any experiences with possession by an entity i.e. an energetic awareness, since that is the province of this blog. Rab told me that he hadn’t personally had any such experiences but he had second hand knowledge of such.

Demons (as he called them) are much harder to expel from the possessed than spirits. This is because (he said) that a person usually has to do something inviting for the Demon to enter (possess) him/her. Examples of these invitations where. OuiJa, Mediumship, Black Magic (indeed all magic was black, fair enough) o and oddly sexual acts that were forbidden (I didn’t go into these).

In the case of Demons, the exorcist could not persuade them to leave by resolving their issues, since they existed to torment mankind. There remained two ways in which to remove them. The first was through the power of Arch-Angels. The second was through inflicting such an environment in the host that the demon would have to “flee”.

What did he mean by environment, I asked? One way which was effective was to take the host into a holy/sacred place. Now that is an interesting notion isn’t it. It spoke to me of incompatible energies. Another way was to bring sacred objects into contact with the host. He said that Rabbi’s possessed many blessed items that they could use to inflict a pain (of a kind) on the Demon. One such item was the Shofar, (which is a Rams horn). This was blown in a particular way that affected Demons non too pleasingly.

As the conversation progressed I realised that it was taking a particular slant. i.e. a religious one. But then I wondered if my slant was any better. During the conversation I mentally translated his words into an energetic equivalent.

Thus Demon equated to energy awareness (leprechaun?) Spirit or soul equated to energetic shade. Sacred places and objects equated to incompatible energy vibrations. Funnily, near the end of the conversation I noted that Rab was doing the same. i.e. where I would say “energy entity” he would reflect back with the word “Demon”.

We covered a lot more than this post can relate I’m afraid, for example. How does one protect against such Demons and Spirits? Obviously leading a holy-life would help. Not getting involved in any of the above mentioned activities (oops). Rab’s opinion was that true possession was so very rare and most of the time a condition was psychological. Good to hear.

I am meeting up with this worthy later on in the month, perhaps at that time I will add more favouring to this post. For now I hope you enjoyed this slight diversion.
