Air, the final element

dowsing trail for air
dowsing trail for air

I am sure for the right person Florence is a beautiful place to visit. Galleries, museums, cafes, water-fronts and much more is at the tips of tourist fingers. However as a choice of places to visit, it wouldn’t be on my list, or at least not very high. As a side note, I would love to visit the place with someone who is an art fan (sic).

Yet, here I was on the train to Florence. The answer to the question that is begging to be asked, namely, “Why?” The answer is always complicated isn’t it. In this instance because of a vision that I had some months back. Now, as readers will know, I am on a quest to obtain four elements. Each had to be obtained in a different country. Other posts detail the acquisition of Earth, Water and Fire. So, I was guided to visit Florence so as to obtain the final element, Air.

What do I know about this art capital? Not a lot, my knowledge comes from a book I read a couple of years ago, Inferno, by Dan (Da Vinci Code) Brown. The book is set mostly in Florence and though consciously I don’t recall anything from it, sub-consciously I might have.

Anyway, I was heading out of the train station and generally following the tourists until I hit the first piazza. Of course the first stop of the day had to be the gelato parlour. Melon and Apricot flavour was the breakfast ice-cream. I looked around at the architecture of the piazza as well as acquainting myself with the Genius Loci of Firenze and decided after a short time that this was going to have to be a job for dowsing rods.

Beltane 2015 – Reparations and the Four Stone Circle

We begin this year’s Beltane celebrations with a set of tales that are like ripples in life’s pond. They form concentric circles within each other, being made of the same substance, and affecting each other. So, I start my set of stories with the largest of the ripples – a ripple going back through time to loop around to the very beginning of our questing.

This first story is the longest, and the rest get progressively shorter. Strap yourselves in!

Beltane Bashing Background

Long ago, when we were young and the world seemed idealistic, we had a notion that we could create a stone circle. Surely, all that would be required is for us to gather some stones together, maybe put them on a hill, enchant them, and then we would be Circle Makers? That, dear readers, is what we did many years ago.

The action was full of difficulty – which should have been our clue, but we were less aware in those days. We hauled some rocks around up a steep hill in Wales on a hot day which then turned cold on us. The rocks cracked as we attempted to “tap” them into place in our makeshift circle. The energetic imprint we created has ever more been a source of slight guilt for us, as we came to learn more about what we were doing. We always said that one day we would return and right our wrong. This was that day.

The way this story works out is astonishing. My intention was to start the afternoon at St.Winifrede’s Well in Holywell. It was the head of an old pilgrim route from the North coast down into the heart of eastern Wales. My idea was to start with a cleansing, and then move on to somewhere that we could energise, and finally end up at Moel Y Gaer above Bodfari where we could harmonize our work, right our wrong, and find out what was next on our quest. Three simple steps, if somewhat vaguely defined.

Three simple steps that were immediately shifted away from MY plans, and instead worked themselves out in a completely different and most magickal way.

The Tainted Talisman

The Tainted Talisman

Holidays are a wonderful thing. Here I was, roaming along the southern coastline of Albion, the sun was shining and I had no agenda – no physical, mental or spiritual work to achieve this week. Yet something was nagging at me. When re-stocking our motorhome I had re-discovered a treasured item – a necklace that I associated strongly with the Merlin energy. When I picked up the necklace it felt… “neglected”,, but more than that. “Tainted” may be a better word. Not strongly, but enough to cause me to wish to set that right.

It was in the back of my mind one evening as I let thoughts bubble to the surface, and I tried to get a glimpse of what I should do about it. In my vision I saw an old gnarled tree – maybe an oak? I saw the word “Rye” and didn’t know if that was a place or a crop. I knew I could easily resolve the problem by introducing some peaceful and sympathetic energies into the talisman, I felt.

I looked on the map. Rye was a town easily reachable in an hour from where we were staying in Bexhill-On-Sea. So, a visit would be in order.

Mary and All Saints Church - Rye - April 2015 (1)

We walked all around the mediaeval town of Rye, had lunch, then were about to leave when I felt a pull up a steep hill. I convinced M that we needed to continue looking around the town. There was something I needed to do, and the top of the hill would be the location, I felt. As we emerged into an old square lined with timber-framed buildings and a huge church I knew already this was the place.

Dark workers at large

It was a sunny Sunday morning, in a peaceful suburb of Manchester when darkness loomed. Sounds like the opening of a Agatha Christie ‘Miss Marple’ novel doesn’t it? Sadly, as with her stories, the tale gets dark pretty soon.

I was with a friend, at a laundry, just passing the time, you know. When I noticed a couple of Asian gentlemen passed by the window. I don’t know why they caught my attention, but they did. They had looked in and seen me too, but had carried on. Then, a few seconds later they reappeared and walked into the laundry.

Innocent enough so far – maybe they were lost and needed direction? They approached me and opened up a conversation. apparently they were holy pilgrims looking to raise money for some place of prayer to be built. I listened with that sinking feeling that your pocket is going to be lighter. After a few minutes of listening to this tale, I patted my pockets and brought out a couple of pounds.

The main man shook his head and carried on talking. For some reason my attention had drifted from what he was saying and when I refocused I realised that he was after a much larger donation of multiple tens of pounds! I have to confess to you that I had had a long night with little sleep so I was fairly tired, still, there was no way I was parting with that kind of money.

Again, my focus had drifted and as I gathered my thoughts I realised that the man had gone onto to talk about how my fortunes and dreams would come alive because I was a giving person and one of piety. He brought out a scrap of paper and wrote something in Arabic on it, folded it and asked me to hold it. Whilst he prayed.

It was at these strange request that I looked at one and then the other. The other guy who had seemed silent at first, I now realised was muttering something under his breath and holding some kind of medallion in his hand. Again, my focus wandered. Of course I attributed it to my tiredness.

Spring 2015-P3 – Hemlock Stone vortex

Having found very little in the way of sacred sites to keep us in Rutland or Leicestershire we headed northwards towards Nottinghamshire. We had in mind to head for Dale Hermitage, but there would be an unexpectedly pleasant detour first, for as we passed round the outskirts of Nottingham a place popped into mind – The Hemlock Stone. One of our blog readers had mentioned it in a comment recently, and I had not had a great deal to say about it at the time. For some reason it impinged on my thoughts very strongly today. Kal did a quick calculation and we found that we were only 20 minutes drive away. Then, we should pay it a visit.

Approach to the Hemlock Stone site

We arrived and parked in the Bramcote Park facilities, which today included a convenient ice cream van. Far too cold for that, but Kal wasn’t going to be put off. We wandered across the road to Stapleford Hill, and were fortunate enough to have the place to ourselves for the duration of our visit. Everyone else was busy being entertained in the park.

Free To Roam

I don’t cope with barriers very well. Demarcations. Fences. Gates. Ditches. Boundaries of any sort. I like to think of the land as being open and free. That’s part of what our grandparents believed they were fighting to preserve, so you could consider it a “landright” – an inherent right to roam freely on the land if not causing harm. When I’m retired I intend to walk the Belinus Line from the south coast to the north without deviating. That will be one hell of a book, right? I can write it in prison. Anyway – The Hemlock Stone.

As we approach we see the railings around the stone “protecting it”. Well, it is sandstone, so it will wear down easily. Yet, I assert my landright and intending no harm I hop over the railing, as does Kal. It’s his first time here, but my second.

Today felt different from my last visit (which was in February). The energies are much stronger. I felt a tingle of excitement as I sat on the stone. Something was going to happen!

We were done with going on a planned path. It always happens. We make a grand list of places to visit and pretty much get as far as 2 or 3 on the list before we are led off the yellow predicted road and on to stranger paths. Our destination happened to be the Hermits … Read More “The Hemlock Stone – Spring Equinox 3” »

The Energy of Prayer 2 of 3

In my previous post here I gave an outline of the energy that I had found in Laila (and her husbands) home. What was puzzling to me was that in the guest bedroom there was a predominance of positive energies. In fact 3/5ths of the positive energy was in that room. More curious they were … Read More “The Energy of Prayer 2 of 3” »
