On impulse I decided to wander off to the nine ladies stone circle on Friday 29th August. It was a warm but cloudy evening when I arrived at the circle. After doing some prelimenary dowsing around the circle I decided to work more closely with the king stone. This is because the site was getting a bit crowded and the king stone is some 20 metres away from the main circle.
Dowsing around the stone I found a ‘pool’ of energy just at the back of it, starting some 2 foot away from the stone and then forming a ‘trench’ about ten feet wide and 20 feet long – going away and opposite from the stone circle and the king stone.
Gwas and I have discussed several investigative strategies ove cups of coffee and this time I was determine to explore these more fully. So the questioning began in ernest. To begin with I defined the area mentioned using a standard:
- Show me the energetic barriers?
I then wanted to determine whether the energy in this pool was male or female in nature, So I asked the question:
- Show me Male energy?
Duly the rod showed me that this pool was indeed Male energy in nature. However having learned from our trip to Anglesey I walked in the opposite direction and asked:
- Show me Female energy?
And was delighted to have it confirmed – excellent – my rational mind thought – and just to put the nail in the coffin and double confirm it I asked for Male energy – expecting none – and was sadly dissappointed!
The rods said yep – definately Male energy – and Female energy which ever direction I walked. Confusion seems to be the order of the day when dowsing!
So far this pool seemed to respond to Male and Female detection – walking in any direction – So I asked further:
- Is the Male energy running beneath the Female? No
- Is the Male energy running above the Female? No
Now I was really puzzled – Gwas and I had speculated that energy might flow above or below each other but this did neither.
- Is this energy flowing side by side? Yes.
Weirder and weirder as Zaphod Beeblebrox would say! just as a matter of thoroughness I asked:
- Show me moon energy?
I was expecting a ‘yes’ answer since it responded to Female energy and in my mind this was the same thing – to my surprise I got No. Asking for Sun energy got the same response. Intuitively I asked:
- Show me Earth energy?
And got an emphatic – about time – yes!
I recomfirmed all my answers several times and got the same consistent results – the pool was Earth energy, both Male and Female, running so close together that the rods could not distinguish the seperating point.
Interestingly I got a No response to:
- Show me neutral energy
This is another fascinating point as I equated Earth and Neutral in my mind.
Discussion:
Well, well this has thrown several spanners in the works and no mistake. It would ‘seem’ that
Earth, Neutral,Male,Female,Sun and Moon are distinctly different forms of energy.
And even if you mentally equate Sun and Male etc they still register as different energies. This is very puzzling because surely the rods are representing an answer to a symbolism that we hold in our mind? And since Male and Sun are mentally the same to me – the rods should have picked both up – but they didn’t?

I was just re-reading this post and thought occured to me. In an upcoming post on Arbor Low I will be speaking of some dowsing which correlated male and sun/female and moon energies.
It left me confused and wondering about – why it was that here at the nine ladies there was no correlation.
I just had a thought and am noting it here – what if they are still seperate and distinct…i.e. male is NOT the same as sun AND that at Arbor Low the male and sun energies exist in the same or so close to each other that the seperation is difficult to detect.
It will be a quesion (which alas I did not think of whilst we were there) that needs to be asked.

Looks like you’ve started that list with this post. I’ll have to look back through some of Sig’s books on dowsing to look up how we classified the energies. Broadhurst & Miller make mention of the polarity of the paths they trace across southern England (The Michael and Mary Lines described in The Sun & The Serpent). I’ll check back with them too.
